My name is Claudio Carbone and I would like to introduce myself: I am a Landscape Architect and I graduated at the Faculty of Architecture of Rome “Sapienza” in 2014 (Master of 5 years).
The thesis project abroad, entitled "Microplanning and Landscape Project for the Informal City. The case of Porto Alegre which I did at the UFRGS in Porto Alegre (Brazil), where I lived for a period of 6 months, allowed me to approach the issues that affect informal cities, providing me with a basic knowledge of the subject through participation in specific courses.
These themes also constitute a constant interest for me in my research, as demonstrated by the research I have carried out with an interdisciplinary group of Sapienza, Unicam and the Latin Lab of Columbia University of New York, entitled "Forms and spaces of temporary consolidated living: the Latin American community in Rome". The first results of the research above were published in a scientific publication at SIU (Italian Society of Town Planners). I presented this reference document in the application, since one of the case studies of the doctoral project will continue to follow the social dynamics and struggle within these communities.
In 2016 I collaborated in this context with the Study Group of Social-Territorial and Local Action "GESTUAL"
in Lisbon, dealing in particular with peripheral areas and informal or illegal territories, and the involvement of local residents in making decisions about the place where they live. From this experience I produced a documentary that I presented at the Congress of Urban Studies organized by FLACSO Ecuador in Quito.
My growing interest in social practices has led me to collaborate with a one-year research grant at the FLACSO Costa Rica "Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales". There I did a case study on the movements of struggle within the spatial injustices taking place in indigenous territories. The results of this research were presented by me at the academic congress of political science ALACIP in Montevideo, Uruguay and published by the scientific review Conjeturas Sociológicas in Salvador.
In Lisbon, I followed the research group for a year in the DINAMIA, CET-IUL, where I study again the processes of inclusion of informal territories in the metropolitan area of Lisbon.
At the moment I am enrolled in the PhD "Development Studies" which is carried out in an interdisciplinary manner between the universities ISEG, ICS, IGOT, ISA of the University of Lisbon.
As a documentary filmmaker, I have produced four films by director all focused on building communities in four different contexts: Mexico, Portugal, Costa Rica and Italy.
