1>> TITLE

Low-Cost Data Warehousing Using Data Grid Technologies 2>> DESCRIPTION

We reached a time where data warehouses are no more a strange thing to data base administrators and especially to companies’ people. The age of decision-making support instead operational ones are arriving to companies that have today their operational systems (quite) stable.

However, in spite of having good justifications to implement data warehousing infrastructures, companies’ managers (and, obviously, database administrators) haven’t the necessary financial support to go forward a decision-making environment implementation. The strong emergence of data grid technologies that we have been assisted till today has open new possibilities to implement low cost data

distributed scenarios, once it allows using current companies’

computational platforms in a manner that they behave like one single (huge) platform. The possibility to use data grids in data warehousing environments is very promising. This projects intends to study the advantages (and disadvantages) of using data grids to support data warehouses, and how we must to act (what we must to do) in order to implement effective populating (ETL – Extracting, Transforming and Loading) and exploitation processes of data warehouses in a grid environment. Basically, we intend to find a way to do such processes using the distributed computational resources available in a grid environment.

3>> GOALS

Design and implement a distributed platform inside a data grid environment able to receive a corporate data warehouse, providing mechanisms to ensure effective populating and exploitation data warehousing services.
