FEED BAR HEIGHT SETTING P300·2/ 201
When feed bar is at correct height, the slit In the f eed lifting crank Is aligned with the tim ing flat on feed lift in g rock shaft as shown In Fig . 23.
If ad j ustment i s required, f irst be sure that the f eed l ifting rock shaft crank pos it ion screw engages th e rock shaft s pot correctly •
Th en loosen feed l ift ing crank pinch screw and a lign sl it of feed lifting crank with timing fl at on feed I ifti ng sha ft. Re-tighten crank pinch screw.
FEED DOG ADJUSTMENT P300-2/ 201
Lengthwise . Setting
The feed dog is correctly adjusted wh en Its movement I s central i zed between forward a nd rear ends of throat pla te.
For adjustme nt, loosen position screw a nd set screw, Fig. 24, and move rock frame forward or backward to centra li ze the movement of the feed dog in the throat plate. Re- tighten set screw and posit ion screw.
Sidew ise Setting
The feed dog should clear the sides of the throat plate with approximately the same distance on both sides. If adjustment is requ i red, loosen position screw a nd set screw shown in Fig. 24 and feed l ifting crank pinch screw shown In Fig. 23 and move assembly to correct posit I on.
He i ght Setting
The feed dog, at its highest posi tion, should be limited to the projection of the full depth of teeth above the throat plate. It should be at Its highest position when the needl e is at its lowest position.
For adjustment , loosen feed dog shank screw shown In Fig . 25. To raise feed dog, turn feed dog shank adju st ing screw, Fi g. 25, down. To lower feed dog, turn feed dog shan k adjust ing screw up .

TIMING FEED LIFT ECCENTRIC (P300·2/201
The feed l ift ing eccentric shown in Fig. 26 con be adjusted to permit the teeth of ~he feed dog to remain be low the throat plate until the need le pene-
trate s the materia l.
It i s correctly adjusted when the edge of the looper driv ing crank li nes up with the edge of the lubricating pod on the feed lift ing eccentric os shown on Fig. 26.
Set screws, accessible through hole in feed driving connection, allow for adjustment when re-
quired .
POSITIONING LOOP DEFLECTOR (P300·2/201)
Loop deflector, located on underside of feed dog, is correc tly positioned when there is opprox imotely o 1132 inch clearance between needle and loop de- flector os shown in Fig. 27.
Loop deflector screws shown for adjustment when required.
SETTING THE NEEDLE GUARDS
on F ig. 27 allow
The needle guards ore correctly set when the needles poss them as close as possible without hitting.
To adjust, turn machine pulley over toward operator unti I points of loopers ore about to pass
needles on their forward stroke.
Loosen needle guard set screws s hown in Fig.
28 and turn needle guards os c l ose as possible to the needles without touching. Tighten set screws.
Check by springing the needles to the left while turning the machine pulley to moke certain thot the looper points do nat strike the needles.

The looper thread take -up and gu ide ma" y be ad- justed for handl ing more or less thread, acco rd ing to th ickness of mater ia l and length of stitch, and to c hange the rot io of looper thread i n the finished stit ch.
To change the amount of thread hand led, lo osen looper threa d guide sc rew, F ig. 31 and loope r thread t oke-up rod screw. Move thread guide an d toke- up rod t o the le ft for more thread toke-up, or t o the r ight for less thre ad take-up. Tighten the two set screws ma k ing certa in tha t the toke-up rod posses through the center of the gu ide yoke.
T a change the r at io of loope r thread in f in i shed stitch, loosen thread guide screw, Fig. 31. and lower the yoke (right end} of t he th r ead guide for more thread. For less t hread , ro i se r ight end of gu i de. Hold i n posit ion and t ight P.n gu ide screw .

SPEED
Maximum speed lor thes e mac hines is 4500 stitches per minute . Operat ing speed depends on material sewn and operati on performed.
New machines should run at a speed of 500 s titche s per minute less then maximum speed lor the first 100 hour s of operation .
NEEDL ES
Use Union Spec ial Needles, Catalog P32GO, in sizes ranging from 14 to 25.
Size of needl e for an operation is determined by size of thread used and type of material sewn.
Ord ers for needles should specify quant i ty qu ired , cat a log number and si ze number.
For Example :
100 Need les, Cata log P-{3260, Size 22
SETTING THE NEEDLE
re-
Turn machine pulley over toward operator unti I needle bor is ot its highest posit ion. Loosen needle set scr e w. Inse rt need le up into need le h o lder a s high os it wil l go with needle scorl to !eft end eye of needle in line with horizontal machine arm, os

THREAD
Left twist th read shou ld be used in th e need l es.
Either left
orr ight twiSt th read may be used in the loope r s .
Thread twist is determoned by hoiding thread as ind icated i n Fig. 8. Twir l thre ad over toward you w ith thumb and fore fi ng er of right hond . If lef t twist thread, strands will w ind tighter. If right twis t thread, s trands wi l l unwind or separate.

THREAD TENSIONS
Tens ion on thread should b e os light os possible while sufficient to set stitches correctly in material.
Regulate Needle Thre ad Tens ions Only When Presser Foot is Down
Needle thread tension and looper thread ten sion are regul ated by thumb nut s shown in Fig. 10. To in c rease ten s ion, turn thumb nuts over t o r ight. To decrease tens ion, turn thumb nuts over to left.
PRESSURE ON MATERIALS
Pressure on material should be as light as pos- sible while still sufficient t o insure correct feeding .
Presser Foot
To reg.,. late presser loot pressure, loosen set scr ew shown in Fig. 11 . To incr ease pressure, turn adjusting screw in. To decrease pressure, turn ad-
justing screw out. Re-t ighten set screw.
Puller Feed Roll
To in crease puller feed roll pre ssure , turn ad- ju sting screw (shown in Fig. 12) down. To decrea se ,
turn up.
Puller Feed Roll Bar Posit ion Bra ckets
Puller feed roll bar position brackers ore cor- rectly positioned when lifter arms ere resting on arm block as shown in Fig. 12. If adjustment is required, loosen bracket position screw shown i n Fig. 12 and
lower brocket t o correct position . Re-tigh ten brocket position screw.
STITCH LENGTH REGULATION PJ00..0/201 - Needle Feed
To regulate stitch length, depress plunger on machine arm shown in Fig. 13 and turn machine pulley unti I plunger drops into recess in eccentric adjusting disc on arm shaft. NEVER DEPRESS PLUNGER WHEN MACHINE IS OPERATING. Turn plunger to lock in "Dawn" position. With machine
pulley in this position, the button on bed surface should drop into recess in eccentric adjusting disc on bed shaft. When both plunger and button ore in
"Down" position, turn mach ine pulley unt il desired stitch l ength is oppos ite ind icating arrow on machin e arm. Re lease plunger and button. NEVER START MACHINE UNTIL PLUNGER AND BUTTON ARE
RELEASED.
The letter "A" opposite the indicating arrow represent s the longest stitch length ond the letter
