Dear Lord Jesus and Mary, Mother of God, hold all these brave souls in the palm of your hand; comfort them and their families. Send angels of protection, love, and comfort to all the service men and women still at war, bring them home safely and comfort their families. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Take Five for Faith The tree of life blossoms again

A teaching from the Law of Moses says it all: "Cursed be the one who hangs from a tree" (Deut. 21:23). The body of such a person was to be buried the same day, or the land would be defiled. Religious leaders sought a verdict of crucifixion from the Romans for precisely this reason:

to quell talk that Jesus was God's chosen. It's also why Je- sus' disciples rushed to gain permission to take him down from the cross that same day. Like every kingdom para- dox, of course, the "cursed tree" becomes a tree of life for those who believe. Celebrate this hope today!

Right to Life-LIFESPAN Happy Easter

During the Easter season we see baby bunnies, new grass growing, beautiful lilies, puppies, baby chicks, small chil- dren looking for hidden Easter Eggs. All of these images are designed to help us think of Spring and new life. The new Life granted to us at Easter by the risen Lord should serve as a reminder that ALL LIFE brings blessings and joy.

We at LIFESPAN wish you the blessings that come with the Easter celebration and acknowledge that LIFE is precious and to be protected.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP Leave It in the Tomb

Today, on the most important day of the liturgical year, the Apostle Paul is calling us out.

“I see you hiding in that tomb,” he says. “I see you baking with that old, stale yeast, thinking no one will notice.”

He says it a little more elegantly, I’ll grant you. But the message is this: If you want to be raised with Christ, you’d better be ready to step out of the shadows. Seek what is above — not what is on earth.

I can feel myself responding almost reflexively, “Great idea, Paul — but I’m pretty comfy here.” Because some- times, it’s just easier to stay in the tomb. It’s easier to crouch in the shadows and look outward at everyone else, thinking of the changes they could make or the sins they could overcome.

Today we are called to embrace newness. New hearts, new lives, new futures, new chances. If there’s anything keep- ing you from that, you need to leave it in the tomb. It’s a little scary, sure — maybe Jesus thought so before he stepped into the light of that first Easter morning. But no loaf of bread worth eating was ever baked using stale yeast that wouldn’t rise. No new life worth having was ever lived through the broken sins of yesterday. No Easter morning ever dawned without the tomb sitting empty.

Step into the light. He is waiting for you.

Phone #: _______________________________________

Grade: _________ (Altar Servers ONLY) Here is a prayer that was received from a very close friend

of Fr Jack. We need to pray daily to be in union with Fr Jack because he prays this prayer daily and it gives him great consolation.

Oh My God, you have created me to do some definite service.

You have committed some work to me that You have not committed to another.

I have my mission, I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.

I will trust You, whatever, wherever I am.

If I am in sickness, my sickness will serve You.

If I am in perplexity, my perplexity may serve You.

If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve You.

You do nothing in vain. You know what you are about.

Though friends be taken away, though I feel desolate, though my spirits sink,

though my future is hidden from me,

yet I will trust You, for You know what You are about.

I ask not so much to see as to be used:

through Christ our Lord, Amen

The Parish Office will be open Monday thru Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Parish Office will be closed on Fridays.

You may also email us at: [email protected] If you leave a voicemail at the office, calls will be

returned the next business day.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

St. Benedict’s Prayer Shawl Ministry has been a huge success. Since this ministry began, we have given away 140 prayer shawls. Without the help of com- munity donors, we would never be able to meet the de- mand. If you know how to knit or crochet and would like to donate to our ministry, please contact Gloria Armstrong at 248-681-1534.
