Pentecost
June 9,2019
Dear brothers and sisters,
COME HOLY SPIRIT AND RENEW THE FACE OF THE EARTH!
There is a very ancient hymn in the Church that we sing on Pentecost called the Sequence of Pentecost. This hymn describes the effects and roles of the Holy Spirit. I want to quickly go over some of the lines to say a few things.
Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour your dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away:
Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray.
This is what the Spirit wants to do in us… a new creation that has discovered the tenderness and mercy of God. Pentecost is the opposite of Babel;
communion and understanding appear. Thanks to having the Divine Life in us, we can love and understand the other one in his/her uniqueness without having to change them so that they fit our ideal – the same love that God has had with us. So let us ask what the hymn says: “In your sevenfold gift descend”.
Also today is the first mass of Fr. Cesar Chen, we wish him the best in his new assignment in St. Aloysius in Newark. We welcome Deacon Preston Perez as he starts his assignment with us; and we also welcome Mr. Eduardo Carbajal our seminarian for the summer. Let us help him in this time of
formation. We hope to soon have the final results of the Festival.
Saint Francis de Sales Pray for Us!
Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Sana nuestras heridas, nuestra fuerza se renueva;
Sobre nuestra sequedad vierte tu rocío;
Lavar las manchas de culpa:
Dobla el corazón obstinado y la voluntad;
Derretir el helado, calentar el frío;
Cure nossas feridas, nossa força se renove;
Na nossa secura, derrama o teu orvalho;
Lave as manchas de culpa:
Dobre o teimoso coração e vontade;
Derreta o congelado, aqueça o frio;
Guie os passos que se desgarram.
É isso que o Espírito quer fazer em nós ... uma nova criação que descobriu a ternura e a misericórdia de Deus. Pentecostes é o oposto de Babel;

“Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be for- given. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one an- other, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person
is very powerful.” James 5:14-16
