REM: R. Esc. Minas, Ouro Preto, 65(2), abr. jun. | 2012 155
The new CAPES WebQualis demonstrates how REM has advanced in its areas of greater impact. The publication had already achieved maximum qualiication, but with the introduction of a newly adopted methodology by the controlling organ, REM’s qualiication level has unfortunately declined. It is good to remember that in no single moment did CAPES seek to discuss this classiication with the editors by means of the Brazilian Association of Scientiic Editors (Associação Brasileira de Editores Cientíicas -ABEC), nor have they sent a sent a representative to the ABEC meetings for the last twenty years.
Although REM is now seeking to improve its Qualis classiication, it is worth mentioning a letter which was received by the CAPES Evaluation Director some years ago. This letter was in response to REM having questioned CAPES as to why the classiication method did not relect the scientiic merit, quality, or seriousness of the periodical. That year, REM received a classiication of “C”.
The most logical thing to do would be to ignore the Qualis classiication, but challenges have always been a good motive to ight and we will meet the challenge.
