En consonancia con las polít icas de la OMS que consideran que la invest igación en el cam po de la salud av anza en la m edida que aux ilia, coor dina y ut iliza las act iv idades de las inst it uciones y a exist ent es, los Cent ros Colaboradores de la OMS fueron creados para apoyar la OMS en sus áreas de especialidad en los niveles local, nacional e int ernacional. De los 1000 Cent ros Colaboradores exist ent es en t odo el m undo, r ep r esen t an d o las d iv er sas ár eas d e salu d , 3 6 , en 1 9 p aíses d if er en t es, son d ed icad os a la en f er m er ía y part ería, en las áreas de educación, invest igación y polít icas. Los 36 Cent ros congregan fuerzas a t ravés de la Red Global de Cen t r os Colabor ador es de la OMS par a el Desar r ollo de la En f er m er ía y Par t er ía. Desde su creación, en 1987, la Red Global ha se t ornado una fuerza significat iva de liderazgo int ernacional. THE PROCESS TO BECOME A CENTRE

Th e Wo r l d H e a l t h Or g a n i z a t i o n i s

headquart ered in Geneva, Swit zerland and carries out i t s h e a l t h p r o g r a m s o f w o r k b o t h d i r e c t l y f r o m

headquart ers and via it s regional and count ry offices.

The Wor ld Healt h Assem bly defines t he geographical a r e a s t h a t c o n s t i t u t e t h e W H O r e g i o n s , a n d i n

accor dance w it h t he WHO Const it ut ion, each r egional or ganizat ion is an int egr al par t of WHO. The r egions
