Rev Bras Psiquiatr. 2009;31(3):196 196

We have received with pleasure and enthusiasm the news regarding the increase in RBP’s (Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria) impact factor, as released by the Institute of Scientific Information – ISI Web of Knowledge. The new impact factor increased from 1.225 in 2007 to 1.318 in 2008. Furthermore, there has been a substantial increase in the number of citations to the articles published in RBP. In the year 2008, 534 citations were received, as compared to 306 citations during the year 2007. Of note, the increase of the impact factor has occurred simultaneously to a significant decrease in the endocitations (citations of RBP about itself), showing that this increase was due, mainly, to the acknowledgment of the quality of our articles by authors who publish in other scientific journals – what has been occurring consistently along time.

With the new impact factor, RBP is classified as the fourth among the 80 Latin American scientific journals indexed by the ISI, and the second with the highest impact in the Health area. Thus, RBP assures its place as the one of the most important vehicles for the publication of scientific knowledge in Brazil and Latin America.

In order to keep this excellence we are aware that we have to advance also in the efficacy and speed of the editorial process, easing the work of authors and reviewers. To reach this objective, we are modifying the online management system of the editorial process by migrating to a faster and more efficient process, the ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly known as Manuscript Central). This system is used by several scientific journals, among the most important in the world. This important step will make faster the articles’ submissions and reviews.

We hope that these advances stimulate the Brazilian and Latin American researchers to keep sending the results of their studies and to peer review articles to RBP. Thus, we may keep providing the members of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (ABP – Associação Brasileira de Psiquiatria) with the most advanced clinical and research knowledge in Psychiatry.
