Begin a city tour of Hanoi - the present Vietnam's capital, a unique Asian city with tree-lined boulevards, French Colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and oriental temples. The tour includes the Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (from outside only), Ho Chi Minh House, the One Pillar pagoda and the Ethnology Museum (closed on Monday).
In the afternoon, continue your city tour of Hanoi, visit Tran Quoc pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum (open on Monday) and the Temple of Literature, and Ngoc Son pagoda, in the middle of Hoa Kiem Lake.

Take a walking tour of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, also known as the ‘36 streets’. This bustling area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It's a great place to explore with plenty of photo opportunities all around you.
According to availability: finish the day with a Water Puppet show. This is a uniquely northern Vietnamese art form depicting scenes from rural life and episodes of national history.

Wake up to fresh coffee and a breakfast before cruising back to Halong City. Disembark in Halong. Transfer back to Hanoi by road.
In the afternoon we return to Hanoi and check in your hotel (day use) to take a rest before transfer to the Railway Station to Lao Cai.
Note: the train to Sapa is a local basic train with Vietnamese standards and is much simpler than European/Australian/American. Cabins have 4 sleeping berths or can be privatized for 2 people (Dlx category). No dining carriage is available and only some limited drinks/snacks are for sale.

Arrival in Lao Cai early morning. Transfer to have breakfast.
After having breakfast, you will travel by car to Bac Ha, which is 70 km Southeast of Lao Cai. The ride is relatively flat from Lao Cai to Bao Nhai, where you will be taken through rural area. Situated in the mountains in border area, 20 km from Bac Ha, Can Cau is a small, but very colorful market. Opening only on Saturdays, it always delivers a very photogenic display of Flower Hmong, Black Zao, Phu La ethnic costumes. Chinese people also come for trading. After spending the whole morning exploring the market, you will leave the market for Bac Ha town, where you will have lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, you drive downhill for about half an hour. You will then start a short walk to Trung Do village, which belongs to the Tay minority. Here you can visit a traditional Tay house, before getting on a boat. You will have a cruise upstream the Chay River to experience the picturesque scenes on the river banks. You will then cruise down stream to the Bao Nhai Bridge, where you get on the car for the journey back.

After breakfast, you will commence your journey from Sapa by car to Lao Chai village, a Black Hmong ethnic minority village. You will then be able to walk from Lao Chai to Tavan village where the Giay ethnic minority hill tribe lives.
After lunch the walk continues through a bamboo forest to Giang Ta Chai, a Red Dao ethnic minority village. After taking a rest nearby a waterfall to refresh, you start climbing uphill to a road where the car is ready for your journey back to Sapa.
In the evening, check in your hotel (day use) to take a rest before transfer to the Railway Station to take train to Hanoi.

Depart your hotel for a full day tour of Ho Chi Minh City. Head to Cholon, the city’s Chinatown district, discover the markets and shops of the area, and also the Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda - dedicated to the goddess of the Sea. Vietnam's first traditional medicine museum, the FITO Museum, will be visited next, displaying an amazing collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese medicine. Implements used to prepare indigenous herbs, objects commonly found in traditional pharmacies as well as ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine can be seen in the galleries.

Head back into the centre of the city to visit Ben Thanh Market where an incredible display of fresh produce is offered. Simply stroll through the market seeing and enjoying the variety of goods for sale. After lunch visit the War Remnants or History Museum (choose which one you would most like to see) and the former Presidential Palace, from there stroll (your vehicle will be available at all times) to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Old Ho Chi Minh City Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), Continental Hotel, Opera House and City Hall. At the end of the afternoon head back to your hotel.
