Dear Lord Jesus and Mary, Mother of God, hold all these brave souls in the palm of your hand; comfort them and their families. Send angels of protection, love, and comfort to all the service men and women still at war, bring them home safely and comfort their families. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Got fava beans?

In some parts of the world, especially in Italy, it is customary to carry blessed fava beans in observance of St. Joseph Day. In New Orleans you might run into a parade. Just about anywhere you’ll meet people wearing red. And today is Father’s Day in Spain and Portugal, all to honor Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary. Most Catholic churches have a window or statue dedicated to the saint. If you’re an old-time Catholic in Poland and your name is Józef, tradition holds that you throw a party for your friends and neighbors. Whatever your name, why not wear red today, put fava beans in your pocket, and maybe throw a party?

Sewers And Used To Be’s…

Don’t let your skills and your sewing machine get rusty. Drop in on the Daughters of Isabella pillowcase committee (Sew and Sows) meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20th, to learn how to create simple pillowcases for the kids at Mandy’s Place in Children’s Village. The children have been re- moved from their homes for various reasons by the court. The pillowcases welcome the children and let them know someone is thinking of them.

Instructions and kits to get you started will be provided.

If you have a machine and can sew a straight line, we need you. You can bring your portable and sit and sew or pick up materials and sew at home.

Meet us in the back of the social hall. In the event of a funeral luncheon or weather advisory, another date will be scheduled.

For more information, please contact Carolyn Owen at carolynjowen@yahoo.com or 248-625-1115.
