- To implement and assess programmes and mechanisms for supervising education, training and human and professional de-velopment of diverse actors & institutions. - To reinforce the development of knowl-edge and resources within qualitative research methodologies, analyzing their role in knowledge construction.
O I Fórum CIDTFF1 decorreu em 2017

that year, related to research pathways, mainly from collective works (within the scope of national and international networks), but also of individual nature, carried out over the 25 years of CIDTFF and which allowed telling the story of the center in the voice of its authors, thus projecting it into the future – featured other initiatives dedicated to the celebration of the center’s anniversary, among which we highlight the timeline currently in exhibition at the hall of the Department of Education and Psychology.
The present e-book intends to put together and disseminate the contributions of the par-ticipants of the 4th CIDTFF Forum (CIDTFF
researchers, as well as some partners), which took place on July 15, 2020. In light of the constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pan-demic, this forum was held exclusively online.
No total, estiveram simultaneamente
Innovation (RRI).
The event counted with the simultaneous participation of 80 researchers, and with 46 presentations in video format.
Under the theme of Social Responsibility of Research (SRR) in Education at CIDTFF, the 4th forum had the following objectives:
- To develop knowledge about CIDTFF as a collective of researchers and in-crease its internal cohesion.
- To promote discussions on dimensions of Social Responsibility present in the research already carried out by CIDTFF researchers, as well as research that we aim to do (involving external consultants). - To contribute to the construction of
strategies that enhance the social impact of the research we carry out, following a Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach.
The intention was to build, in a way sustained by a shared and discussed path, guidelines for building a Social Responsibility of Research (SRR) strategy for CIDTFF. In addition to its exclusively online nature, other innovations were introduced, with emphasis on the presentations in the format of narrated videos or PowerPoints, ensuring bilingual com-munication (Portuguese and English) and the integration of an extended peer-review system with “critical friends” as readers, all of them with the objective of enhancing the quality of the works and promoting the sharing of ideas and projects, a core feature of this event.
The programme considered not only the nature of the event (online) but, above all, its ultimate purpose of ‘nurturing’ the cohesion of the CIDTFF community. In this sense, the 4th Forum was structured in four
grandes momentos.
- Eixo 1 - O papel dos atores educativos: fontes de informação, parceiros, poten-ciais beneficiários;
- Eixo 2 - Os modos de comunicar in-vestigação em educação: como, quando e para quem?;
- Eixo 3 - O significado da Ciência Cida-dã na investigação em educação: ponto de partida ou meta;
major moments. The first took place during the morning and was dedicated to parallel sessions dedicated to the presentation of the 46 works submitted by the researchers, also including moments of debate. These parallel sessions, called “Conversations with the au-thors”, were organized around five thematic axes that are not mutually excluding and that are reflected in the structure of this e-book, namely:
- Axis 1 – The role of educational actors: information sources, partners, potential beneficiaries;
- Axis 2 – The ways of communicating educational research: how, when and to whom;
- Axis 3 – The meaning of Citizen Sci-ence in educational research: starting point or final goal;
- Axis 4 – The impacts of research and their sustainability;
- Axis 5 – The relationships between social responsibility and ethics. At the beginning of the afternoon, the second moment aimed to find converging (and diverging) points regarding the un-derstanding of SRR, stemming from the “Conversations with the authors” sessions, constituting, therefore, the opportunity to present the “syntheses and emerging perspec-tives from the parallel sessions”.
This critical analysis of a more ‘internal’ nature, which was carried out by Betina Lopes, Gabriela Portugal, José P. Cravino, Manuela Gonçalves, and Xana Sá Pinto (CI-DTFF researchers), was followed by the third - Eixo 4 - Os impactos da investigação e
a sua sustentabilidade;

moment of the 4th Forum, which counted
with a more ‘external’ insight of three of the CIDTFF consultants. Under the theme “Crossing views: perspectives of the consul-tants on Research and Social Responsibility at CIDTFF”, this moment was led by Antonio Bartolomé, Michael Byram and Eduardo Mortimer, who presented their critical analysis of the posters, seeking to identify consolidated and emerging dimensions of social respon-sibility, with the objective of supporting the construction of the future CIDTFF agenda.
The day ended with the launching of the book “Percursos de Didática” (freely translated as “Routes of Didactics”) by Isabel Alarcão4 – retired full professor of the UA
and member of the research center since its

foundation – published in the “Educação e Formação” (Education and Training”, free translation) collection of the CIDTFF “Cadernos Didáticos” (“Didactic notebooks”, free translation)5.
The projects presented at the Forum and the discussions emerging from their analysis put forth a set of ideas that we found sys-tematized in the reflections presented by the external consultants and in the syntheses of the parallel sessions made by the moderators. Among them, it is clear that CIDTFF has an evident concern to include various dimensions of social responsibility in research, operational-izing in different ways and to different degrees the principles of SRR (“public engagement,
5 To know more about the “Education and
Training” collection of the “Didactic notebooks”, see https://www.ua.pt/pt/cidtff/page/24040
open access, gender, ethics, science education”)6.

open access, gender, ethics, science edu-cation”)6. In this sense, a need emerges to
foster a shared vision by all members of the center of what SRR means, a concept that is suggested to be co-constructed, based on a shared conceptual framework and involving the different partners of the center (students, educators, institutional/ policymakers, etc.).
The videos also show that CIDTFF already collaborates with several partners in the development of research and inter-vention projects, although teachers and schools are assumed as either privileged partners, the focus of research and the tar-get audience for scientific dissemination.

It was suggested extending the partner network to other actors and civil society institutions (e.g. NGOs, parents, associ-ations, municipalities, science museums, communities, etc.), and that they get in-volved in the dynamics of building the strategic vision of the center, as well as in the planning and execution of projects, according to the degree of involvement they wish to have. The importance of betting on more broaden means of communication and at a more national and international level, which could reach more diverse audiences, was also highlighted.

Still within the scope of this dimension, the complexity associated with impact assessment and associated effects which, in the field of education, are not and must not be limited to the identification of immediate results, was emphasized.
We conclude this presentation shar-ing with our readers the environment of creativity, commitment and endeavor that has always accompanied and facilitated the work of the organizing committee of this 4th Forum, which, equipped with the
- Joana Pereira – O elemento
omni-presente que, sem nunca participar
managed to set up this meeting in an un-precedented format, within two months:
- Ana Varela – Goddess Shiva of organi-zation, suspected of having an arm for each CIDTFF file.
- Betina Lopes – The researcher with the most refined aesthetic sense when choosing headphones, as elegant as the meeting logo - or even more!
- Helena Araújo e Sá – Congenial mul-titasker, babysitter grandmother, meet-ing coordinator and literary critic in free times.
- José Paulo Cravino – The researcher with the most radiophonic voice ever heard by the scientific community. - Joana Pereira – The omnipresent

- Manuela Gonçalves – Sociologist and claimant by nature, who insists on entering non-existing meetings and work links.
- Xana Sá Pinto – Superwoman with powers to create links from other links. Retrieving the words of the Director of the Department of Education and Psychol-ogy of the UAveiro, Carlos Fernandes da Silva, an institution with sense of humor is a healthy institution. We hope that reading this e-book will be as rewarding for the reader as it was for us to think and build it.
