Resumo
Vários estudos realizados em Portugal e noutros países mostram o pouco conhecimento da população e de outros profissionais de saúde sobre a Radiologia, o Técnico de Radiologia e os riscos da radiação.
Os resultados sugerem a necessidade de melhorar a comunicação sobre essas questões em toda a comunidade.
Desta forma, a associação portuguesa NUCLIRAD iniciou em 2018 o programa “Radiologia para Todos”, com a criação e promoção de diversos conteúdos dirigidos ao ensino de todas as faixas etárias como crianças, adultos e idosos, com o objetivo de promover a Radiologia e a profissão de Técnico de Radiologia em toda a comunidade.

Introdução
A NUCLIRAD - Núcleo de Desenvolvimento dos Técnicos de Radiologia é uma associação sem fins lucrativos, que representa os profissionais Técnicos de Radiologia em Portugal.
Foi fundada em 5 de Julho de 2017 e tem como principal objetivo, desenvolver e valorizar a profissão de Técnico de Radiologia, através da aposta na formação específica, investigação, valorização profissional e ação social.
Desde o início que a associação se preocupou em perceber qual o estado de arte da profissão em Portugal, tendo para tal realizado no mês da sua fundação, uma digressão pelos Serviços de Radiologia dos principais hospitais do país, para conhecer a realidade e falar diretamente com as Coordenações Técnicas. Isso permitiu descobrir diferentes realidades e perceber os maiores problemas dos profissionais, sendo um deles
Abstract
Several studies carried out in Portugal and other countries show the poor knowledge of the population and other health professionals about Radiology, Radiographer and radiation risks.
Results suggest the need to improve communication on these issues throughout the community.
In this way, the Portuguese association NUCLIRAD started in 2018 the programme "Radiology for All", with the creation and promotion of diverse contents directed to teach all age groups like children, adults and older people, with the objective of promoting Radiology and the Radiographer profession to the entire community.

Introduction
NUCLIRAD - Nucleus for the Development of Radiographers is a non-profit association that represents the Radiographers professionals in Portugal. It was founded on July 5, 2017 and its main objective is to develop and enhance the Radiographer profession through a focus on specific training, research, professional development and social action.
Since the beginning, the association has been concerned with understanding the state of the art of the profession in Portugal, having done so in the month of its foundation, a tour through the Radiology Services of the main hospitals in the country, to get to know the reality and speak directly with Radiographer Coordinators. This allowed discovering different realities and realizing the biggest problems of the professionals, one of which is transversal to all - the
transversal a todos – o fraco reconhecimento e valorização da profissão pelos outros profissionais de saúde e pela comunidade.
Esta problemática correspondia ao sentimento e percepção inicial que tínhamos aquando da fundação da associação, pela prática e pelo contacto que vivenciávamos com os colegas de profissão. Contudo, considerou-se necessário perceber o que a comunidade científica referia em relação a esta temática , tendo sido realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica por alguns dos principais motores de busca científica, que viria a comprovar a mesma problemática a nível nacional e internacional.
Dos artigos referenciados ¹⁻⁷, todos eles foram unânimes em reconhecer o pouco conhecimento da população e de outros profissionais da saúde acerca da Radiologia, do Técnico de Radiologia e dos riscos da radiação, apontando explicações diferenciadas para os resultados obtidos, variando com o país e cultura. No entanto, em todos eles os resultados sugeriam a necessidade de melhorar a comunicação sobre estas questões em toda a comunidade.
Tendo como base a observação da prática em diversos locais de Portugal e a pesquisa bibliográfica, decidimos planear e realizar atividades com foco na Comunicação, para que pudéssemos promover de forma efetiva, a Radiologia e profissão de Técnico de Radiologia na comunidade.
Antes de se avançar com o planeamento das atividades, considerou-se que seria fundamental perceber o que estava a falhar na Comunicação e quais as estratégias a adotar no caminho para uma maior efetividade. Para tal, fez-se uma pesquisa por alguns dos autores de referência mundial ao nível da Comunicação, Motivação e Gestão de Pessoas, sendo de salientar um nome de reconhecido valor pelos pares e que nos permitiu encontrar muitas semelhanças com a problemática deste estudo – Simon Sinek ⁸⁻¹⁰.
Simon Sinek é um otimista inabalável que acredita num futuro brilhante e na nossa capacidade de construí-lo juntos. Descobriu padrões notáveis sobre como os maiores líderes e organizações pensam, agem e se comunicam. E foi uma das suas teorias, designada “O Círculo Dourado” ⁸, que serviu de base para o planeamento das atividades que compõem o Programa Educacional “Radiologia para Todos”, iniciado em 2018 e com perspetivas de continuar por muitos anos.
Materiais e Métodos
O objeto do estudo realizado foi a metodologia de construção de um Programa Educacional, que permitisse promover de forma efetiva, a Radiologia e profissão de Técnico de Radiologia na comunidade.

This problem corresponded to the initial feeling and perception that we had when the association was founded, due to the practice and contact that we experienced with professional colleagues. However, it was considered necessary to understand what the scientific community was referring to in relation to this theme, having carried out a bibliographic search by some of the main scientific search engines, which would prove the same problem at national and international level.
Of the referenced articles ¹⁻⁷, all of them were unanimous in recognizing the little knowledge of the population and other health professionals about Radiology, the Radiographer and radiation risks, pointing out different explanations for the results obtained, varying with the country and culture. However, in all of them the results suggested the need to improve communication on these issues across the community.
Based on the observation of the practice in several places in Portugal and bibliographic research, we decided to plan and carry out activities with a focus on Communication, so that we could effectively promote Radiology and the Radiographer profession in the community.
Before proceeding with the planning of activities, it was considered that it would be essential to understand what was failing in Communication and what strategies to adopt on the way to greater effectiveness. To this end, a survey was carried out by some of the world's leading authors in terms of Communication, Motivation and People Management, and a name of recognized value by peers, which allowed us to find many similarities with the problem of this study - Simon Sinek.
Simon Sinek is an unshakable optimist who believes in a bright future and in our ability to build it together. He discovered remarkable patterns about how the greatest leaders and organizations think, act and communicate. And it was one of his theories, called “The Golden Circle” ⁸, which served as a basis for planning the activities that make up the Educational Program “Radiology for All”, started in 2018 and with prospects of continuing for many years.
Materials and Methods
The object of the study carried out was the methodology of building an Educational Program, which would allow to effectively promote Radiology and the Radiographer profession in the community.
No início, o método utilizado foi o de amostragem não casual, por conveniência, tendo sido selecionados Serviços de Radiologia de grandes hospitais das regiões Norte, Centro e Sul de Portugal Continental, para descobrir as diferentes realidades e perceber os maiores problemas dos profissionais. Os critérios na seleção destes hospitais foram a sua representatividade central na região e o maior número de profissionais. Este processo decorreu no mês da fundação da associação e sob a forma de visitas presenciais de 1 dia às referidas instituições, englobando reuniões com os Técnicos Coordenadores de Radiologia.
Depois de percepcionada a realidade, foi realizada uma pesquisa exploratória e qualitativa, com análise dos conteúdos, de forma a conseguir perceber as diferenças relativas à percepção da realidade observada e as recomendações / conclusões mencionadas. As palavras-chave utilizadas para a pesquisa encontram-se no campo lexical da Percepção e Conhecimento acerca da Radiologia e dos seus profissionais.
As referências ¹⁻⁷ mostraram pouco conhecimento da população e de outros profissionais da saúde acerca da Radiologia, do Técnico de Radiologia e dos riscos da radiação, com os resultados a sugerir a necessidade de melhorar a comunicação sobre estas questões em toda a comunidade.
Depois disso foi realizada nova pesquisa exploratória e qualitativa, com análise dos conteúdos, de forma a conseguir perceber o que estava a falhar na Comunicação e quais as estratégias a adotar no caminho para uma maior efetividade. A pesquisa foi direcionada para autores de referência mundial ao nível da Comunicação, Motivação e Gestão de Pessoas, tendo sido selecionado um nome de reconhecido valor pelos pares e que nos permitiu encontrar muitas semelhanças com a problemática do estudo – Simon Sinek ⁸⁻¹⁰.
As referências, padrões e teorias do autor serviram de base para a construção do Programa Educacional “Radiologia para Todos”.
Resultados
Desde o início da sua fundação, a associação NUCLIRAD reconheceu a importância da Ação Social no desenvolvimento da Radiologia e da profissão de Técnico de Radiologia.
Em 2017 iniciou um concurso de Posters Artísticos dirigido a Técnicos de Radiologia portugueses, com o tema “A Fotografia do Nosso Corpo”, em que o objetivo seria mostrar à população uma outra forma de ver o corpo humano através de imagens de exames radiológicos, na sua forma original ou montagem. No final do concurso foram selecionadas 20 obras-primas que constituíram a Exposição Itinerante “A Fotografia do Nosso Corpo” (Fig.1), que percorreu 11 Centros
In the beginning, the method used was non-random sampling, for convenience, with Radiology Services from large hospitals in the North, Center and South regions of mainland Portugal being selected, to discover the different realities and understand the biggest problems of professionals. The criteria in selecting these hospitals were their central representation in the region and the largest number of professionals. This process took place in the month of the association's foundation and in the form of 1-day face-to-face visits to the aforementioned institutions, comprising meetings with the Radiographer Coordinators.
After realizing the reality, an exploratory and qualitative research was carried out, with content analysis, in order to be able to perceive the differences related to the perception of the observed reality and the recommendations / conclusions mentioned. The keywords used for the research are found in the lexical field of Perception and Knowledge about Radiology and its professionals.
References ¹⁻⁷ showed little knowledge of the population and other health professionals about Radiology, the Radiographer and radiation risks, with the results suggesting the need to improve communication on these issues across the community. After that, a new exploratory and qualitative research was carried out, with content analysis, in order to be able to understand what was failing in Communication and which strategies to adopt on the way to greater effectiveness. The research was directed to authors of world reference in terms of Communication, Motivation and People Management, having chosen a name of recognized value by peers and that allowed us to find many similarities with the study's problems - Simon Sinek ⁸⁻¹⁰.
The author's references, standards and theories served as the basis for the construction of the Educational Program “Radiology for All”.
Results
From the beginning of its foundation, the NUCLIRAD association has recognized the importance of Social Action in the development of Radiology and Radiographer profession.
In 2017 started a contest of Artistic Posters directed to the Portuguese Radiographers, under the theme "The Picture of Our Body", in which the objective would be to show the population another way to see the human body using images of radiological exams, in its original form or mounting. At the end of the contest were selected 20 masterpieces that constituted the Itinerant Exhibition "The Picture of Our Body" (Fig.1), which toured 11 Hospital Centers covering the entire national territory during 2018. The works were exhibited in
Hospitalares que abrangem todo o território nacional durante o ano de 2018. As obras foram expostas nos átrios dos hospitais, tendo recebido um feedback positivo dos profissionais de saúde e da população local.
Orientados pelo feedback positivo, no final de 2018 e 2019 deu-se início ao Programa Educacional “Radiologia para Todos”, gerando diversos conteúdos como:
▪ Apresentações sobre Segurança e Proteção Radiológica, dirigidas a profissionais de saúde; ▪ Apresentações sobre o papel da Radiologia e do
Técnico de Radiologia, para crianças; ▪ Folhetos de exames radiológicos;
▪ Roll-ups de promoção de Radiologia e do Técnico de Radiologia;
▪ Vídeos promocionais e educacionais;
▪ Desfiles de moda com equipamentos de proteção radiológica individual (Fig.2);
▪ A mascote representativa dos Técnicos de Radiologia, denominada RAIO X (Fig.3);
▪ Exames de rastreio como DEXA (para osteoporose).

Guided by the positive feedback, at the end of 2018 and 2019 started the "Radiology for All" Educational Programme, creating several contents as:
▪ Presentations about Safety and Radiological Protection, directed to health professionals;
▪ Presentations about Radiology and Radiographer role, for children;
▪ Flyers of radiological exams;
▪ Radiology and Radiographer promotion roll ups; ▪ Promotional and educational videos;
▪ Fashion shows with personal radiological protection equipment (Fig.2);
▪ The representative mascot of Radiographers, called XRAY (Fig.3);
▪ Screening tests such as DEXA (for osteoporosis).

A exposição destes conteúdos decorreu em:
▪ Ações de formação em Hospitais e Escolas Superiores de Saúde (Fig.4);
▪ No Dia Internacional da Radiologia;
▪ Sessões educacionais realizadas em jardins de infância e escolas primárias (Fig.5);
▪ Festivais de verão relacionados com a saúde.
Até ao momento o trabalho desenvolvido pela associação tornou possível atingir eficazmente uma pequena amostra da população, mas já existem planos em 2021 para ser alargado ao maior número possível de centros hospitalares em Portugal.
Conclusão
O estado da arte atual revela que há pouco conhecimento sobre o papel da Radiologia e do Técnico de Radiologia por parte da população.
O exemplo apresentado pela associação portuguesa NUCLIRAD revelou um feedback muito positivo sobre estas questões por parte de outros profissionais de saúde e da população em geral como crianças, adultos e idosos.

The exhibition of these contents took place in:
▪ Training events of some Hospitals and Higher Health Schools (Fig.4);
▪ The International Day of Radiology;
▪ Educational sessions held in kindergartens and primary schools (Fig.5);
▪ Summer festivals related to health.
So far the work done by the association turn possible effectively reach a small sample of the population, but there are already plans in 2020 to be extended to as many hospital centers as possible in Portugal.
Conclusion
The current state of the art reveals that there is poor knowledge about Radiology and Radiographer role by the population.
The example shown by the Portuguese association NUCLIRAD revealed very positive feedback on these issues from other health professionals and the general population like children, adults and older people.

Os conteúdos apresentados foram adequados e eficazes para a população portuguesa, tendo permitido transmitir o que é a Radiologia, quem é o Técnico de Radiologia e os reais riscos das radiações ionizantes. Para que este exemplo possa ser seguido por outros países, deve ser adaptado às características e culturas da população de cada país.
O facto de todo o trabalho ter sido realizado por uma associação só permitiu atingir uma pequena amostra da população, ainda que de forma eficaz.
Uma das estratégias sugeridas para futuras ampliações será a criação de uma rede de Técnicos Coordenadores de Radiologia de hospitais de referência, envolvidos e motivados por esta associação ou entidade similar, para que possam difundir nas suas regiões, cobrindo todo o território do país.
The presented contents were adequate and effective for the Portuguese population, having allowed to transmit what is Radiology, who is Radiographer and the real risks of ionizing radiation.
So this example can be followed by other countries, must be adapted to the characteristics and cultures of the population of each country.
The fact that all the work was carried out by one association only made it possible to reach a small sample of the population, albeit effectively.
One of the suggested strategies for further enlargement will be to create a network of Radiographer Coordinators from leading hospitals, involved and motivated by this association or similar entity, so they may spread the word in their regions, covering the whole country territory.
