PROPOSED RESOLUTION

(Submitted by the Representative of Venezuela)

ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION PROGRAMS

The Directing Council,

Bearing in mind that in the majority of countries diseases

arising from the lack of proper sanitation still constitute a serious

problem; and

Considering that in the programs of the Organization preference

should be given to those diseases so that the measures taken may be

truly adequate to meet the present needs,

RESOLVES:

To request that the Director reconsider the provisional draft

budget for 1961 in order that a considerably greater amount may be

devoted to sanitation programs, particularly with respect to

diarrheal diseases and helminthiases, and that such funds be obtained

through the reduction in allotments for projects of lesser urgency.
