The standardized process is designed to support the current development of online student tutoring. Therefore, to help student tutors in their work as online student tutors and to standardize online tutoring a.

2 Literature review

Ford believed that standardization was a necessity and he believed that every step of the manufacturing process should be of quality (Petersson et al., 2018, pp. 39-41). It is a whole in which the intention is a win-win situation for all, i.e. the activities should benefit all stakeholders.

3 Methodology

At the same time, the aim of the quantitative research was to draw conclusions based on the results of the online survey. IB Online degree has had a total of 12 past and current online student counselors, nine of the twelve online student counselors were available for the interview - making the response rate 75 percent. However, with 75 percent of the online student teachers interviewed, the high participation rate met our expectations.

4 Results

Which expectations did you have for being an Online student tutor? What motivated you to become an Online student tutor? Were those

The motivators for becoming a student tutor are supported by Ratilainen (2013, p. 29-30) who writes in her report that one of the goals of student teaching is to increase students' sense of community through the lives of other students after the studies and that student teaching can also improve the student-tutor's social skills, loss of stage fright, confidence in public speaking and readiness for responsibilities. Most online student tutors mentioned that their expectations were completely met, and they really enjoyed the experience. One student tutor whose expectations were not met at all mentioned that they received no more than three questions from new students during their time as a tutor, causing them to feel disappointed with the experience.

What did you enjoy about Online tutoring? What were the biggest challenges?

New student mentors would create different chat rooms for different topics, e.g. learning platform information or Campus Online enrollment information. The latter idea would also benefit the student mentors to distribute the workload equally. A few of the student tutors felt that some of their fellow tutors were not dividing the assignments equally, so they created rooms which they would then share equally.

The second most used tool was email. Student mentors expressed the feeling that this was a more professional way of communicating, but it was challenging when, for example, they had to show examples of how to do something with pictures, whereas it was easier to send screenshots with WhatsApp. required information. A few student mentors were reached through other social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and one mentor even had direct online calls with students via Zoom, Skype, and WhatsApp video chat.

Which recommendations would you give to new Online student tutors?

By guiding students to find their own answers instead of providing them, student tutors help students create good study habits such as organization and time management that will help online students reduce stress in the long run as Fandl and Smith (2016, p .58) suggest, and to become more self-directed and self-initiated as Joshi, et al., (2020, p. 32) says online students should be. What are the special requirements posed by teaching online students in a fully online environment.

The final products of this thesis aim to support each of the three stages of tutoring. Tutors and degree program assistants were video interviewed, the questions asked were qualitative in nature and both groups were asked the same questions. Tutor teacher responses will be marked as TT and program assistants as PA.

The value that tutoring is generally mutually beneficial as it helps shorten the time students can spend searching for specific information and allows them to focus on their studies more quickly, and of course it also shortens the time that a teacher would normally spend answering practical matters individually so that he/she can concentrate on teaching.

Online education is especially valuable for students who are not particularly technologically savvy and having online student tutors is important to motivate the incoming students to believe that they can also combine work and everyday life with studies, as the tutor becomes a proof that it is feasible. How could more students be motivated to become online student tutors?

Guidance in general should be an active role, especially during the first year of study, but also at the end, as students who are about to graduate can give tips on how to, for example, write a better thesis or avoid suspension. If they get credit for it in a way that will help them in life after school. If you are thinking about online tutoring position, one of the things you need to specialize in is digital solutions; so giving them some kind of certificate that will later translate as a plus in the labor market could be a big incentive.

What do you expect from a student who wishes to become a tutor?

What skills do you think student tutors need?

A 20% percent of teacher advisors mentioned that online student tutors should have an empathetic and caring attitude, and they should be able to predict the problems that new students may have based on their own experiences. Both program assistants agreed that the future online student teachers should be team players, have good intercultural communication skills, and technical and organizational skills. From this we can say that although the future online student teachers do not possess all the skills at once, through guidance they can expect to develop these skills.

Do you have improvement ideas for the student tutors?

He or she should learn quickly and be curious to learn more, should be patient, open and creative; they should also have the courage to speak up when something or someone is not acting as expected so that action can be taken if necessary. Chin, Rabow and Estrada (2011, p.31) state that it is important for tutors to be patient, observant, ask questions and try to understand students at their level. The qualitative responses given by the students on the online tutoring survey provided an insight into the value and importance of getting adequate support from the students' tutors online.

What kind of support from your tutor was the most important to you?

A quarter of the students (six out of twenty-four) who answered this question mentioned that they did not encounter any problems in turning to tutors for help. The results for this question, related to the answers to question number three [where most students mentioned that they need the most help with technical, administrative and practical matters] prove that most students feel the importance and impact of having a student mentor at the first stages of their studies. These results again support what Härmä and Joshi (2013, p. 18) wrote about mentoring in the first year: it is focused on getting started and familiarizing yourself with the way the university works.

In your own words, please describe what is the value of Online tutoring?

The second most common answer has to do with the humanistic part of the study, meaning that online tutoring gave the student a sense of connection with someone who has gone through the same experience, even from a distance. Some students indicated that their tutor became their friend and the person who motivated them to continue during the first semester of study. Again, two of the twenty-four responses similarly indicated that the value of online tutoring is more for junior students and teachers as it provides an extra set of helping hands as the funnel where they can get information faster, but they did not see much value for more seasoned students, because they think they are better able to find answers on their own.

On a scale of 1 to 4, what was your tutor's level of subject matter knowledge in relation to your questions? 1= Dominated the topic 2= Somewhat. The responses in this question can be explored further, as we did not ask for any additional information about which topics students felt their tutors did not dominate. We can assume that one of the reasons why the student tutors did not dominate the subject was that the question was outside the constraints of their roles.

Which environments do you think are the most suitable for Online tutoring? You can choose more than one

It is clear that most of the students felt that WhatsApp is the best tool to communicate with their tutors, we can assume that they like this tool because of the speed it offers in communication, however we have to consider that a large number student tutors mentioned that communication. Therefore, future tutors of students should think about what the best methods of communication can be so that everyone has access to information quickly and effectively without neglecting the clarity of the message. As mentioned in the results obtained from the online tutors of the students, the use of the A3 template provided in the final products will help facilitate communication.

Third, the online student guidance has the pedagogical model in its guidance phase, where the guidance content and the guidance counselor(s) come together to provide a learning experience. It is the part of the cycle where each tutor must be involved and a time to execute the online student tutoring plan. Next in picture 5, a user guide A3 template version for online student guide can be found below.

5 Research conclusion

In the third question, we explored what type of online tutoring online students want and need. Online students perceived their online student tutors as a primary source of information for studying related issues and a support system during their first year of study. The final product can then be further developed based on the future needs of the program by the incoming online student mentors with input from the online students and online teacher mentors as well as the organization itself.
