The
experimental building
used was afattening pig
house of the Danishtype
divided into4
identical rooms with a
capacity
of 32-40pigs
each.Every
room was fitted with adynamic
ventilation
system (pressure
aboveatmospheric)
with ratesranging
between 5o and 740M 3 /h/ 1 pig
anda heating system by
radiation whosecapacity ranged
from 100to 260millithermies/hour / pig.
By
means of an automaticregulator (I.T.P.( * ) patent)
itwas possible
at any moment to obtain different ambient conditions from one room to another.The climatic data were recorded
continuously
until theslaughtering
of the first group of animals.Six trials were made from
197 6
to197 8
from which thefollowing
conclusions can be drawn:-
optimum
ambient conditions are obtained athigh temperatures (at
least 20 p. 100 at the resultantdry temperature),
- association of a low ventilation rate
( 30 m’ /hour /pig)
and ahigh
airvelocity ( 2 . 5 m /s)
leads to the best
growth performance,
- the
feeding
level should be taken into account whenchoosing
the ambient conditionsas ad libitum fed
pigs
are lesssusceptible
to climatic variations than restricted animals.Deodorization of pig
