Born in Prague, Johann Nepomuk Platzer studied in Vienna and later worked in the city. The records of the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, show that he requested membership of the academy in 1772, whereby the relief now housed in Budapest was his submitted work. The relief gives insight into a contemporary anatomy lesson: the students are drawing a nude model. In the foreground we see Minerva, patron of the arts, while in the background there is the view of Vienna.
