Fig. 10 shows the cyclic polarization curves obtained for all supermartensitic steel samples in the two electrolytes. The OCP values and breakdown potentials (Eb) are summarized in Fig. 12. Considering the polarization results, all cyclic polarization curves of the supermartensitic steel samples in both electrolytes exhibits spontaneous passivity above the OCP followed by a breakdown potential at which point the current increases rapidly. Upon reversal of the scan direction, each curve also shows a large positive hysteresis loop, with repassivation occurring near or even below the original OCP, indicating a severity of localized corrosion attack. The existence of a large hysteresis loop and low repassivation potential indicated that pit repassivation was difficult and that these materials have a high likelihood of forming pits during long time exposure to the solution containing chloride. All samples showed a similar value of passivation current density for the two electrolytes. In general, the OCP values for all sample were approximately -150 mV (Ag/AgCl) in both electrolytes (Fig. 12).

24 In view of the foregoing, it is relevant to highlight that recent studies on the global food market indicate new trends and requirements for human feeding by grouping them into five categories: Healthiness and Welfare; Sustainability and Ethics; Pleasure and Sensoriality; Convenience and Practicality; Quality and Reliability. With effect, the Brazilian food industry has indicated the understanding of these new trends. Moreover, the national vegetable oil market has adherently shown signs to consider diversification and value addition as a bias for its products (Barbosa et al., 2010). It is, thus, noticeable that the oils extracted from macauba fruit may cohere with health benefits to be potentially applied as an alternative feedstock for the production of functional food with special appeals (Rettore and Martins, 1983; Prates-Valério et al., 2014; Pimenta et al., 2012). It is, therefore, reasonable to stand out that the highly unsaturated structures of carotenoid may lead to their functional properties at the same time that it creates challenges about stability along thermal processings. The compounds are expected to undergo two changes as a result of exposure to high temperature, light, and pro-oxidant compounds: oxidation and isomerisation (Rodriguez-Amaya et al., 2008). Degradation should then be naturally prevented to maintain biological activity. Hence, quantitative kinetic models describing carotenoid changes as a function of process parameters are valuable tools for predictive processing optimisation. Carotenoids conversion kinetics is strongly dependent on the food system as well as on the compound type. Thus, accurate knowledge on thermal degradation kinetic becomes determinant to quantitatively predict specific changes that occur, also, in macauba oils (Rodriguez-Amaya et al., 2008; Sampaio et al., 2013; Colle et al., 2013).

The 2016/2017 Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students (GUESS) Report of the Chair of Entrepreneurs of the University of Cádiz, shows that the Engineering students, together with the Science, is the one with the lowest entrepreneurship index at the end of their studies. In addition, and if we compare it with the Engineering students of other Spanish universities, this entrepreneurship index reflects a significant difference that is aggravated by comparing it with that collected in European countries that are part of the GUESS program. Therefore, the need to promote entrepreneurship in engineering degrees seems to be evident. The subject Organization and Business Management is only taken by the first year students of these Degrees. Consequently, and throughout the entire career, it is important to reconcile the contents taught in class with another series of activities to promote entrepreneurship.

A BLUEPRINT FOR RESEARCH-LED TEACHING ENGINEERING AT SCHOOLS: A CASE STUDY FOR TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY

and they act as an interface between the student-centred Taylor‟s teaching framework and outside the academic region. The students sit at the centre of the framework where variety of research-led curriculum, such as EURECA conference, annual projects, Grand Challenge Scholar Programme, research-led modules are designed and directed at them. On the other hand, the research groups connect with the outer world, raising research funds, collaborating with the industry and community and disseminating knowledge through publications and consultancy. The donut-like framework is published in the school research website to the public and it is expected to attract talent students (under/post graduate) to the school research-led teaching activities allowing the students to choose the challenge theme, researcher, or project. This method will generate engineers who join Taylor‟s Engineering programme to polish- up their dream challenges throughout their studies. It is believed that this will not only expose students in real problem solving, it also develops the staff in learning and acquiring new knowledge. Besides, it is envisioned that with this framework, academic staffs were motivated to deliver higher research outputs through working with international professionals, indirectly attracts and expand the research group members and ultimately establish a research-based institution. With the continuous effort putting in research and teaching, it is also anticipated that Taylor‟s School of Engineering academic staff would be able to put out textbooks or handbooks that compile the lecture notes, tutorial questions and research case studies to deepen the students interest and learning process for each modules.

Girl’s perception about Computer Science Courses and their career intention - Study with High School Students

Firstly, the students were introduced to the concepts of the software engineer- ing and then the different applications in computing area. In a second phase, two evaluation questionnaires were pre- sented to the students (such as mentioned in experiment one). Twenty one students completed and returned the initial ques- tionnaires. Twenty students completed and returned the final questionnaire for the second experiment. Seventeen of the twenty one students that participated in the Workshop are between 15 and 16 years old. All had access to the Inter- net at home, school, work and/or other places. Some of them used technologi- cal resources in the school such as social networks, Internet search browsers. Most participants did not know anyone who studies or works in computing area but they had mentioned the interest in the area and classified the activity as “extremely” or “much” interesting and fun.

O autor do presente trabalho teve acesso à maioria dos equipamentos e ferramentas necessárias para realizar avançadas opera- ções de microscopia e espectroscopia. Deixando os entretantos e che- gando ao finalmente, microscopia é utilizado para investigar estruturas e formatos de componentes. Espectroscopia determina o material usado para construir circuitos integrados. O autor utilizou principalmente Mi- croscopia de Força Atômica e Eletrônica. Em outros países, contuto, usa-se Microscopia de Tunelamento. O autor desse trabalho já entrou em contato com os professores B. Fejer e T. C. Shen, da Utah State Uni- versity, para conseguir acesso a um microscópio de tunelamento, assim como de outros equipamentos necessários para fazer Computer Hardware Engineering.

In fact, now, hybrid of the above-mentioned four algorithms (metaheuristics) are employed in the analysis. Implementing evolutionary algorithms a series of operations should be taken into considerations. They are summarized in Table 1. However, it is necessary to point out that all operations that are conducted in four groups of evolutionary computations have their own meaning and are different. For instance, it is impossible to give the identical meaning of the reproduction or the crossover or the recombination operations. In genetic algorithms reproduction means the selection of individuals from the initial populations using only the fitness value. Thus, for instance having the size of the initial population equal to 10 and having randomly generated 10 different individuals, after reproduction 5 different individuals only may create a population having the same size as previously, i.e. equal to 10. Then, the crossover operation may be conducted. As it may be seen those operations are not connected with the form of chromosomes. In addition, it is worth to emphasize that according to the standard [43] recombination has a different meaning than crossover since crossover is limited to so-called sexual recombination only. In general, the use of different terms in the brief presentation of evolutionary algorithms should demonstrate different operations and the difference in specific groups of evolutionary computations.

Air and fuel flow may recirculate back into the primary zone, but largely penetrate to the combustor centerline. In addition, the temperature is lower here than at stoichiometric mixture but still too high for the turbine blades. The aim of tertiary zone is to inject extra dilution air in order to reduce the combustion exit temperature to that acceptable for the turbine inlet.

Effects of Distance between Classes and Training Datasets Size to the Performance of XCS: Case of Imbalance Datasets

algorithms have been proposed. Some of the best well-known approaches are applied at the sampling level. In [10], Chawla et al. presented SMOTE which can be done either over- sampling minority class or under-sampling the majority class. Both methods can be applied in any concept learning system, since they act as a preprocessing phase, allowing the learning system to receive the training instances as if they belonged to a well-balance dataset. Thus, any bias of the system towards the majority class due to the different proportion of examples per class would be expected to be suppressed. In addition, in [12], the effects of sampling method, probabilistic estimate and decision tree structure of C4.5 on imbalance datasets were investigated. They also proposed an average improvement of the Area under the ROC curve (AUC) measure over the other sampling schemes. Beside that, G.M. Weiss and F. Provost [16] analysis the effects of imbalance datasets to classifier learning systems and how they affect through the evaluation of learned classifiers by using two performance measures: AUC and classification accuracy. In [13], a new approach in cost-sensitive to neural networks is proposed instead of decision trees to solve multiclass tasks. And in [17], G.M. Weiss indicated the learning from imbalance and rarity datasets can be handled in a similar manner. Recently, Chris S. et al. [9] evaluated the performance of seven commonly- used sampling techniques on imbalance and noise datasets to study the effects of noise to imbalance problem. The most notice researches are [14] and [15]. They proposed a new sight in imbalance problem by proposing to consider the effects of overlapping datasets and small disjunction problem. This approach is also focused in our research.

The bench-scale HAIS reactor was filled with polyurethane foam matrices containing immobilized anaerobic sludge taken from an up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor treating diluted piggery wastewater. A synthetic substrate with glucose as the main carbon source (COD of 2090 mg/l) was used for feeding the HAIS reactor in two experiments with bed porosities (e ) of 0.4 and 0.24, at an HDT of 8.0 and 4.8 hours, respectively. The temperature was maintained at 30° C, and COD, volatile fatty acids (VFA), total alkalinity (TA) and pH were monitored in the effluent stream (L/D of 20) and intermediate ports along the reactor​s length (L/D of 4, 8, 12 and 16). Data on COD temporal and spatial variations are shown in Figures 3 and 4, respectively. A short start-up period duration (6 days) in both the experiments confirmed that a HAIS reactor can provide favorable

There has been an increasing focus on the globalization of Engineering Education Research (EER) in recent years and recognising this, in 2007 the editors of the Journal of Engineering Education (JEE) and the European Journal of Engineering Education (EJEE), Jack Lohmann and Jean Michel, respectively, launched a worldwide initiative called Advancing the Global Capacity for Engineering Education Research. In a resulting paper published jointly by EJEE and JEE in 2010 (Jesiek, Borrego & Beddoes, 2010), it was suggested that “the field of engineering education research is going global” and Jesiek and colleagues went on to propose a model whereby engineering education scholarship could advance locally and globally via cycles of translation and enrolment which would connect local practice and contexts with a global core of knowledge. These authors encouraged EER practitioners to “look for opportunities to translate research questions, theories, methods, and findings so they are readable and relevant across national and institutional boundaries ” and urged scholars to “think globally about the development of engineering education as a research field, while acting locally to enrol new actors and perform context-sensitive translations ”.

Within a country, the evolution of the various fields can be assessed by comparison of the relative growth rate of the field. In the case of Brazil, the growth rate of 30.2 for chemical engineering is by far the highest. The next closest field is materials science, with a growth rate of 20.9. Table 1 presents the growth rates for the top five fields. Figure 1 summarizes the evolution of the number of papers published in the four consolidated engineering specialties in Brazil: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering.
