SHARING HIGH-RESOLUTION MODELS AND INFORMATION ON WEB: THE WEB MODULE OF BIM3DSG SYSTEM

Many experiences in the field of CH have grown a strong need of dedicated information systems created ad hoc for the managing of survey data, 3D representation, restoration operation and different kind of information related to the objects, to the models and to the maintenance activities. These type of systems can be used both to present the final work of virtual reconstruction and as support for any activities on the heritages and for the facility management of buildings. Generally, the main requirements are the possibility to manage very complex, extensive objects and high-resolution models, to cooperate with different stakeholder in real time and to make available the results of the work to the public. BIM3DSG, here presented, gives some interesting positive answers and solutions. Different cases of studies testify as the system can be easily used not only in architectonical field and extensive archaeological cases, but also for little objects and museum applications.

WEB-BASED SYSTEM FOR RADIOLOGICAL PROTECTION PROGRAMS: A REPOSITORY FOR RESEARCH, CONSULTATION AND INFORMATION

For the informatization of the monitoring programs, there was developed a platform whose range of features and functionality suits the needs of the corporate public. The system is developed in a modular structure, that allows to integrate interrelated elements on both search and research basis. Moreover, we created updating models where each information is recorded in its most current form in a single record without redundancy, even though it can be found in different subjects or modules. Each module is developed independently and can be inserted, adapted, updated or deleted separately, without prejudice of the other ones. This will allow the program adjusts over time according to the needs identified during the next years.

The impact Of the Internet On The Development Of Web-Based Business Models

The impact Of the Internet On The Development Of Web-Based Business Models

In the context of business models, it is worth mentioning one more issue. Namely, the impact of the Internet as a technology not only limited to new business models developing solutions in the electronic space, but also connected with their creation in the real world. An example of such a situation is an innovative business model called car sharing, implemented by the Zipcar company and related to a completely new approach connected with the ownership and usage of a car, and satisfying consumers’ automotive needs. As distinct from previously used solutions such as the purchase or lease of an entire car, customers instead buy just the “amount” of car they actually need, incurring all costs connected with its usage in proportion to the time it is used. The functioning of this business model is based on a complicated management system of a single set of cars which are shared by many users, which would not be possible without an advanced IT system, including high-speed Internet connections, wireless technology and mobile devices.

Uso de informação estrutural para melhorar qualidade de busca em coleções web

Uso de informação estrutural para melhorar qualidade de busca em coleções web

Unlike plain text documents, Web pages are commonly composed of distinct segments or blocks such as service channels, decoration skins, navigation bars, main sections, copyright and privacy announcements. This is of interest because previous works have demonstrated that these different segments or blocks, which can be automatically iden- tified in Web pages, can be used to improve information retrieval tasks such as search- ing, Web link analysis and Web mining. For instance, block information can be used to estimate term weights according to the occurrence of the terms inside blocks (instead of inside pages). As a consequence, the importance of each term occurrence may vary depending on its location (or block) within the Web page. The motivation is that, for instance, the occurrence of a term in the main contents section of a Web page is expected to be more important for ranking purposes than an occurrence of that same term in a menu of that page.

An Investigation of the Academic Information Finding and Re-finding Behavior on the Web

This study followed Bruce, Jones, and Dumais (2004) and Capra (2006) and used a two-staged experiment design to study the information finding and re-finding behavior. Participants were ten library and information science graduate students who were conducting their thesis research, had had a specific research topic in mind, and were in the stage of literature search and gathering. Each participant was asked to conduct four assigned known-item search tasks and one self-selected topic search. Each of the four assigned tasks represented a specific type of tasks (see Table 1). After seven days, the participants were asked to re-find the information. Data were collected via search logs and questionnaires.

Integration of Information Technologies in Enterprise Application Development

Integration of Information Technologies in Enterprise Application Development

Using this functional model, I have designed an integrated system implemented in Mule, using some design principles to work in the following integration schema: declarative addressing and XML configuration for service invoker, SOAP formatting messages sent inside the service bus and web proxy service calls to end-point. I used the .NET environment developer tools and Visual Studio 2010 to generate references to proxy for Web Services. After generating web service brokers, client applications generate in the form of .NET proxy, on the one hand, and within ESB, Apache proxy, on the other hand, the distributed communication architecture is the following: a client application, i.e. the medical system, calls a local method to process entity "delivered service into consultation"; local method calls a web service exposed by Mule integration server, it makes medical entity to be passed internally within the service bus, which will be given to a web service component type to the other endpoint of the integration server. This service will call an internal method of the other client application, i.e. the financial system, that will process information from another business perspective: invoicing patient medical services. Between the exchanges of messages in the web service bus, working entities are subject to transformations and serialized/de-serialized. Generic objects are serialized in SOAP messages, then

A Framework For Extracting Information From Web Using VTD-XML‘s XPath

A Framework For Extracting Information From Web Using VTD-XML‘s XPath

Yan Hu. et. al [16] have proposed a generic XML-based Web information extraction solution. This method proposes two key technologies: the XML-based Web data conversion technology which converts the HTML into XHTML document according to XML grammars, builds the XMLDOM tree and DOM-based XPath [18] generation algorithm is developed to generate XPath expression for the desired information nodes when the user marks the information points. Then XSLT template rules are applied to extract the user’s interested information from the XHTML documents and the extraction results are expressed in XML.

disciplinary approach. Expertise related to server technologies and instruments will have to be taken into account and possibly integrate other usability analysis and registration instruments. The proposed tool is directed to management staff with conditioned technical literacy. The adoption of a visually oriented interface, comprising statistical visually formatted outputs, is strategic in terms of efficiency of use with high learning rates, aiming at an optimal complementary diagnostic tool. Expertise for the elaboration of the various visualization schemes is directly related to the scientific visualization representation and visualization area. The use of direct manipulation techniques in the interface interaction procedures could be particularly useful when associated to a statistical visually formatted feedback, used to inspect and analyze individual and organizational communication and information behavior patterns. In the sequence of this conceptual framework some specific goals can be enumerated:

An Authentication system of Web Services Based on Web Server Log Analysis

An Authentication system of Web Services Based on Web Server Log Analysis

The security of web services can be split into numerous parts. One of the parts is the authentication, the detection and verification of the authenticity of a user. Traditional authentication was performed by sending a username and password. This method is still used widely, but lack of functionality and litheness required for web services. A difference has to be made to the subparts of security systems. Authentication is, as mentioned before, the detection of the authenticity of a user request to access the resource. Authorization is differing from authentication by controlling the permission of a party. In other words, which parts of the system are accessible by the already authenticated client or authenticated server. Authentication is the first step required to a security system which detects the true identity of the party. After the authentication has been taken place, the second step, authorization can start giving access to the subsystems. The lack of sufficient authentication methods for large web service systems has stalled the development of the services. Recently, authentication methods have been developed by several groups of researchers to solve this problem. However, there is no overview of these methods and they have not been compared to each other yet. All methods seem to have some weaker points in their implementation, but a real comparison has not been made. Web servers also use a range of secondary authentication mechanisms [13], such as sending users an email with an access key, sending users an SMS message with an access key, asking users to answer a security question, asking users to supply an old password and asking a friend or other third party to verify users’ identity to improve the effectiveness of authentication process.

FragKB: structural and literature annotation resource of conserved peptide fragments and residues.

FragKB: structural and literature annotation resource of conserved peptide fragments and residues.

FragKB can be used to obtain information about structurally conserved fragments in the protein of interest. Since FragKB contains literature derived fragment annotation, it enables interpretation of functional significance of a specific conserved fragment. Here, we exemplify the usage of FragKB to find structurally conserved fragments and their functional significance in well-characterized GTPase HRas protein (PDB: 1CTQ).It is known that the small GTPases form an independent superfamily within the larger class of regulatory GTP hydrolases. This superfamily contains proteins that control a vast number of important processes and possess a common, structurally preserved GTP-binding domain. Mutations in these proteins may lead to several chronic diseases in humans. Sequence comparisons of small G proteins from various species have revealed that they are conserved in primary structures at the level of 30–55% similarity [19]. Figure 2 shows a general view of the functional annotation provided for a selected fragment by FragKB. GTPase HRas has 79 conserved fragments (Figure 2A), covering about 75% of the entire sequence. The structure of this protein can be seen in

A WEB-BASED GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM PROTOTYPE ON PORTUGUESE TRADITIONAL FOOD PRODUCTS

A WEB-BASED GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM PROTOTYPE ON PORTUGUESE TRADITIONAL FOOD PRODUCTS

Though the management of information could be done by the web browser, the management interfaces from different components are quite different. This could increase the time and cost for manager to be familiar with different interfaces. It can be improved by designing a uniform web interface to manage the components such as PostgreSQL database, GeoServer and GeoWebCache. For the PostgreSQL database, the interface could be done using PHP script. It can provide the functions such as inserting, updating and deleting records in different tables, similar to phpPgAdmin, but in a more user-friendly interface. For the GeoServer, there is a developing API named “REST configuration API” to configure the GeoServer, and it is expected to be published recently. Based on this API, a simplified interface for user to regenerate the bounds of layers and add new product layers will be possible. For GeoWebCache, considering that the only function required for managing the information is reloading the caches and it does not provide the API in the foreseeable future, it is not really necessary to design another webpage to achieve the same function.

SURVEY ANALYSIS ON THE WEB: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES IN UNIVERSITY WEBSITE INFORMATION

During recent years navigation using web pages have gained a considerable importance not only among the academia but also amongst students, parents, industry and businesses, but the pioneers of the web were researchers and university teachers. Today, however, commercial websites offer a great variety of services, while the majority of university websites only offer conventional information, in many cases incomplete and frequently incorrect. This paper describes some of the services we consider of interest for a university website users and analyses some of the factors universities should take into account in order to convert their web pages into an authentic ‘website’. This study examines a content analysis of national and international universities website designing using 52 contents. Result shows that the national and international universities are offering same number of contents for their website designing and there are nearly equal features in selecting websites of universities.

Granular confidentiality and integrity of JSON messages

Granular confidentiality and integrity of JSON messages

Most business transactions currently depend on the existence of Web Services. More and more developed applications are following a service-oriented approach. This is the reason why it has become one of the most important areas of the IT industry [9]. The security inherent in this type of transactions is essential to ensure the success of an organization and automate most of their internal and external business processes. The possibility for organizations or users to interact directly with other organization’s systems over open networks raise security concerns. How can organizations ensure that their own information or the information of their users reaches the final destination safely, preserving confidentiality and integrity, whenever sensitive information is routed through the WWW [9]. Looking at the state of the art, it is possible to identify different protocols and technologies to ensure the security and confidentiality on the Internet/WWW, each one of them using their own ways to protect information. One of the most used web protection mechanisms is SSL/TLS. As it was previously stated, the main functionality of the SSL/TLS protocol is to establish an encrypted and authenticated communication channel between two communication parties - the client, usually a web browser and a server.

A topological framework for interactive queries on 3D models in the web

A topological framework for interactive queries on 3D models in the web

Several technologies exist to create 3D content for the web. With X3D, WebGL, and X3DOM, it is possible to visualize and interact with 3D models in a web browser. Frequently, three-dimensional objects are stored using the X3D file format for the web. However, there is no explicit topological information, which makes it difficult to design fast algorithms for applications that require adjacency and incidence data. This paper presents a new open source toolkit TopTri (Topological model for Triangle meshes) for Web3D servers that builds the topological model for triangular meshes of manifold or nonmanifold models. Web3D client applications using this toolkit make queries to the web server to get adjacent and incidence information of vertices, edges, and faces. This paper shows the application of the topological information to get minimal local points and iso-lines in a 3D mesh in a web browser. As an application, we present also the interactive identification of stalactites in a cave chamber in a 3D web browser. Several tests show that even for large triangular meshes with millions of triangles, the adjacency and incidence information is returned in real time making the presented toolkit appropriate for interactive Web3D applications.

ndex Structure for the Multi-scale Representation of Multi-dimensional Spatial Data in WebGIS

ndex Structure for the Multi-scale Representation of Multi-dimensional Spatial Data in WebGIS

WebGIS spatial index is proposed by the two reasons. Since the data is stored on the server disk, if the location of the data on the disk is not recorded and organized, for each query a server must get the entire data file, which access the server disk will seriously affect the cost of efficiency of the system. Therefore, the system designer must record and organize the location of the data on disk, using a number of calculations in memory to replace disk aimlessly for visits in order to improve the efficiency of the system, especially the GIS involved in all kinds of mass of complex data, the index is crucial for the efficiency of processing the data. The second is in multi-dimensional. WebGIS network environment, multi-dimensional geographic data makes R-tree index not apply. In the traditional single-alone space index, R-tree index makes excellent performance, and it has been widely used in the prototype research and commercial space database system such as ORACLE. It is one of the most popular multi-dimensional index structures in stand-alone platform at present. However, in distributed massive spatial data management process in WebGIS, to build R-tree is time-consuming, inefficient in data- update and from the global index there are maintenance difficulties. So it is needed to study a special space index to adapt to the multi-dimensional characteristics of WebGIS.

Hypertext and enunciation on the Web

Hypertext and enunciation on the Web

Cultural history has been showing us that a new technology, simply do not come out of nothing or even suppresses an obsolete technology, for instance. There is a gradual improvement of the former one, not disregarding, at once, the latter one. For Eco (1996, p. 298), that, in a way, forgoes the discussions about media convergence, “if that is true that nowadays visual communication is put upon written communication; the question is not oppose one against another; the question is what one can do in order to improve both of them”. What calls our attention to Eco’s proposal, then, is the fact of questioning the predominance of image in new technologies and proposing verbal writing as the semiotic pattern to prevail in the internet. We will see how this critique does not resist to the empirical atmosphere in which the hypertext is settled on the web, which digital condition points out to one of its characteristics: a multisemiosis. We will analyze the figure 1: In the above example of digital hypertext, the syntactic combination among various multimodal resources, which constitutes digital hypertext, conspires for the construction of meaning shared by who accesses it. It is possible to show how two co-occurring works in combination. On one hand, we see the mix of distinctive semiotic modes, and on the other hand, it is likely the concrete manifestation of medias converging (Jenkins, 2006), one of the most present elements in the digital medium. We will examine this figure in order to better come to understand the digital condition on this hypertext. In 1, we have the verbal modality resource that, once it occurs in different kinds of colors, sizes and formatting font, it is already regarded as multimodal; in 2, we observe a figure composing a report on filmmaker Woody Allen. We highlight, however, that this is
