Hardness is being defined as material resistance towards penetration of foreign matters. In order to achieve minimal roughness of cutting surface of samples for hardness measurement were prepared on metallographic saw Mikron 110. In order to accurately measure lengths of diagonals of diamond pyramid pressed into the sample, the sample surface has to be straight and smooth. (Pošta, et al., 2002) Measurement of tested samples was processed according to Vickers. A diamond pyramid with the apex angle of 136 ° was pressed into the sample. Load pressure for this sample was 98.1 N (HV10) for 10 s. Measurement was processed on five places and an average hardness was calculated. Measured values as well as the average value are recorded in Table 4.

Opinions Of Teachers’ Employed In Vocational and Technical Education Institutions About Computer and Internet Based Teaching Materials Usage

Vocational education aims to train individuals as professionals in the fields of industry, agriculture, trade and other service areas, to improve them throughout their career, and to identify in a coherent system the principles to be applied in formal, non-formal and apprentice training for their change of career. “Schools and Institutions of Vocational and Technical Education” include all kinds of formal and non-formal educational institutions at all levels which offer diploma and certificate programs and institutions of secondary education giving diplomas in the field of vocational and technical education. Training qualified individuals needed in production process depends on the quality of vocational and technical education. In this sense, the system of vocational and technical education needs to be continuously renewed in order to train the manpower required by the rapidly changing individual and social needs and to obtain harmony between jobs and individuals through the programs. Certainly, another significant requirement for quality involves the teachers of vocational courses employed in such institutions. The Ministry of National Education (MNE) describes these teachers' attributes as follows: The teachers of vocational courses (workshop) have stronger influence upon students' habits and characters since they are in closer relations with them when compared to other teachers at schools. Teachers of vocational courses have responsibility toward school management not only in the type and quality of workshop training given at schools, but also in helping students getting employed and finding a job in business. Therefore, it should always be remembered that the tasks of the teachers of vocational courses cover character education as well as teaching the knowledge and skills pertaining to their arts. Numerous problems exist in vocational education with regard to training qualified students. In a study on girls' vocational schools, Demirtaş and Küçük revealed various problems such as insufficient funds allocated to these schools, the problem of training qualified teachers, the qualities of the students choosing vocational education, and shortcomings in school equipment. Many other studies also underline the fact that computers are not adequately used by a great majority of teachers.

Analysis of Structure and Abrasion Resistance of the Metal Composite Based on an Intermetallic FeAl Phase with VC and TiC Precipitates

Analysis of Structure and Abrasion Resistance of the Metal Composite Based on an Intermetallic FeAl Phase with VC and TiC Precipitates

Intermetals are creep-resistant materials with unique properties intermediate between the properties of metals and ceramics. Their low density, high strength and resistance to oxidation, combined with sufficient ductility and fracture toughness, make them an attractive material for machine elements operating at elevated temperatures and in corrosive environments. Intermetallic phases based on Fe and Al (called intermetallics) are intermetallic compounds very interesting in terms of the technological properties, which combine the properties of metals and ceramics. From the Fe-Al phase equilibrium diagram it follows that the widest use could have two phases: FeAl and Fe 3 Al. Of these two phases, more useful seems be the FeAl

Assessment Of NPK In Human Male And Female Urine For Its Fertilising Potential In Agriculture

Assessment Of NPK In Human Male And Female Urine For Its Fertilising Potential In Agriculture

ABSTRACT: The study evaluated concentrations of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium in male and female urine stored over six months and its potential as a fertilizing agent in agriculture. Urinals were constructed to allow for easy collection of male and fe male urine and then stored in transparent bottles for six months in a greenhouse. Monthly triplicate analysis of male a nd female urine was done for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, temperature, pH and colour change. Bray P1 and Flame photometry methods were used in the determination of phosphorus and potassium contents and Kjedahl digestion and non-digestion (direct) methods for nitrogen content. Temperature, pH and colour were determined using mercury thermometer, temperature/pH meter and a colour chart. Results showed that nitrogen in female urine was significantly (p<0.05) higher than that in male urine after 2 to 5 months of storage. However, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) with respect to the direct method. Contrastingly, phosphorus in male urine was significantly (p<0.05) higher than th at in female urine after 2 to 3 months of storage but there were no significant differences in potassium content for all male and female urine samples. Generally, NPK yields in both urine sources peaked four months after storage . There was a moderate positive correlation between the direct female urine Nitrogen, and storage time. The phosphorus levels also correlated positively with storage time and temperature but weakly negative with pH. Generally, urine nitrogen strongly correlated positively with potassium but moderately with temperature and pH. Colour of matured urine (after six months storage) was yellow for females and brown for males. NPK contents in both male (30.4(3.4*)-1-43.7) and female (34.4(6.5*)-1-62.8) urine were comparable to those of chemical fertilizers, such as 21% N ammonia. However, the nitrogen content of digested female urine was significantly higher than that of male urine. Phosphorus concentration was higher in male urine tha n in female urine during the 2nd and 3rd months of storage. Ecosan urinals (a designed urinal that seeks to separately collect urine to optimize its usefulness) should be designed to separately collect urine for specific NPK requirements for crop production. Results of this study suggest that concentration of NPK in human urine is comparable to commercial chemical fertilizers. Hum an urine in agriculture should progressively be promoted by governments and other agencies.

The results of studies on the use of FeSi5%Mg magnesium alloy in modern cored wire injection method for production of nodular and vermicular graphite cast irons were described. The injection of Mg cored wire length is a treatment method which can be used to process The injection of Mg cored wire length is a treatment method which can be used to process iron melted in an electric induction furnace. This paper describes the results of using a high-magnesium ferrosilicon alloy in cored wire (Mg recovery 47-70%) for the production of vermicular and nodular graphite cast irons at in at least 13 foundries. The results of calculations and experiments have indicated the length of the cored wire to be injected basing on the initial sulfur content and weight of the treated melt. The results of numerous trials have shown that the magnesium cored wire process can produce high quality nodular and vermicular graphite irons under the specific industrial conditions of the above mentioned foundries. It has also been proved that in the manufacture of nodular graphite iron, the cost of the nodulariser in the form of elastic cored wire is lower than the cost of the FeSiMg5 master alloys.

Application of time-series analysis for prediction of molding sand properties in production cycle

Application of time-series analysis for prediction of molding sand properties in production cycle

Time-series analysis is characterized, as a data mining tool which facilitates understanding nature of manufacturing processes and permits prediction of future values of the process parameters or production results on the basis of the past data, recorded in regular intervals. The main methods and problems of the time-series analysis are presented. The authors’ research results, based on green molding sand proper- ties data collected in a foundry with Disamatic molding line, are presented. The work was aimed at finding optimal settings and models of the time-series analysis for that data as well as detection of possible periodicities appearing in the sand properties. It is concluded that although the time-series analysis requires individual approach to each particular problem, some general recommendations can be also formulated. It can be a useful tool for analysis and predictions of outcomes of foundry processes.

management practices combine traditional conservation-minded farming methods with modern farming technologies but exclude such conventional inputs as synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, instead putting the emphasis on building up the soil with compost additions and animal and green manures, controlling pests naturally, rotating crops and diversifying crops and livestock (REGANOLD et al., 2001). While techniques such as green fertilization concede recycle nutrients from the soil by plant species, furthermore, it can also have the purpose of fixing atmospheric nitrogen when employed leguminous plants (DUARTE- JÚNIOR, 2008). For the increasing production with efficient use of natural resources. Instant Messaging Usage and Interruptions in the Workplace

Instant Messaging Usage and Interruptions in the Workplace

Nardi, Whittaker, and Bradner (2000) observed and interviewed 20 employees from three organ- izations regarding their IM usage, and they observed that the media features of IM provided better control for message recipients. They argued that the common face ‐to‐face or telephone communication methods often caused a fundamental asymmetry in conversation. Namely, during phone or face ‐to‐face communications, the message sender mostly decides the time and subject of the conversation and receives an instant response, whereas the recipient is forced to respond to the topic as directed by the sender; thus, it is easy to interrupt the message recipient (p. 5). Nardi, Whittaker, and Bradner (2000) suggesteded that IM can balance the asymmetry of this interaction because it provides the opportunity to “negotiate conversational availability” between the message recipient and sender. The recipient can decide whether to instantly respond to an IM message using the functions of a delayed response, by showing the status bar as busy, or by the “plausible deniability of presence,” which is also acceptable to IM users. These observations, that IM interruptions are less disruptive than telephone or face ‐to‐face communications, were also supported by subsequent studies. For example, the above study by Quan ‐Hasse, Cothrel, and Wellman(2005) analyzing high ‐tech software and service companies observed that employees used face ‐to‐face/telephone interactions less frequently because these two communication media were more likely to interrupt the ongoing tasks of colleagues than IM.

Polymer in Agriculture: a Review

Polymer in Agriculture: a Review

The same authors studied a synthesis of polymers based on imidazolidin-4-one and hydantoin derivatives monomers. After chlorine bleach treatment, hydantoin and Imidazolidin-4-one units in the grafted copolymers were transformed into N-halamine structures. The antimicrobial efficacies and stabilities of the polymeric N-halamines could be rationalized by the hydrophilic/hydrophobic property of the substrates and mobility/swellability of the polymeric molecules, as well as the surface area of the materials and migration of potentially active chlorine. The hydrophobic characteristic of synthetic fabrics had a great influence on their antibacterial properties [50] . Because the aqueous bacterial suspension could not make sufficient surface contact with the fabrics, a longer contact time was necessary for satisfactory antibacterial results. Other types of polymenc biocides that have recently been prepared and studied; Oh et al. and coworkers have prepared several series of copolymers and blends, which could be classified as benzimidazoles, polyethers and polyesters [51] . The materials appear to have potential as fungicidal and bactericidal films, but the monomers from which the polymers are produced seem to have greater activity than the polymers. other recent biocidal polymers that have been prepared and evaluated for antimicrobial efficacy include poly(hexamethylene guanidine) reacted with poly(acrylic acid) and grafted onto cellulose, polyacrylate with biguanides pendant groups [52] . Rojo and coworkers studied modifications of the chemical structure of eugenol by the incorporation of a polymerizable group, e.g., the methacrylic group [53] . This approach allows the eugenol derivatives to participate in polymerization reactions rather than to inhibit them. The new derivatives could be incorporated to permanent restorative materials, giving to the macromolecular chains the bactericide effects of eugenol.

A framework for Usage Modeling and Anomaly Detection in Large-Scale 802.11 Networks

A framework for Usage Modeling and Anomaly Detection in Large-Scale 802.11 Networks

Characterization of user access durations has been researched extensively in the studies about 802.11 network usage. The focus of most previous works in this area is to understand time users normally stay associated to APs. For example, authors in [96] analyzed duration spent at each AP by considering continuous user session to AP without any disconnection (i.e. without re-association between consecutive associations). T heir analysis show that, mobility and building type affect the session and visit durations at APs, also they observe as the mobility increases the visit duration tends to decrease stochastically, while opposite happens for session duration; hence proposed a family of Bi-Pareto distributions to model the associations and session duration at APs. Authors in [97] characterized usage of the campus network in terms of overall infrastructure usage, user mobility, sessions, and access durations. They observe the number of APs visited per user is influenced by geographic proximity of the locations, and in overall, the number of sessions per user followed a Logarithmic distribution while durations for stationary session followed a two-parameter Weibull distribution and mobile session durations followed an Inverse Gaussian distribution. Authors in [98] developed a wireless user model from analysis of five different traces. They define several users’ states (i.e. active, idle, sleeping, and gone) and state transitions, and propose to employ a hidden Markov model to these state transition matrices. They find that the user models are similar across all five traces even though the traces were collected at different venues (library, coffee shops, and conference) and residing time to APs followed a generalized Pareto distribution.

The application of optical measurements for the determination of accuracy of gear wheels casts manufactured in the RT/RP process

The application of optical measurements for the determination of accuracy of gear wheels casts manufactured in the RT/RP process

The article discusses the possibilities of using optical measurements for defining the geometric accuracy of gear wheels casts manufactured in the rapid prototyping process. The tested gear wheel prototype was cast using an aluminum alloy. The casting mould was made by means of the three-dimensional print method (3DP) with the use of a Z510 Spectrum device. The aim of the tests was to determine the geometric accuracy of the cast made by the ZCast technology in the rapid prototyping process. The tests were conducted with the use of the coordinate optical measuring method and a GOM measuring device. The prototype measurements were made in the scanning mode. The results of the measurements, saved in the STL format with the use of the scanning device software, were compared with the gear wheel 3D-CAD nominal model. The measurements enabled the determination of the real accuracy of prototypes manufactured in casting moulds by means of the ZCast technology. The selection of the measuring method was also analyzed in terms of measurement accuracy and the RP technology precision.

The system of account and control of logistics costs

The system of account and control of logistics costs

The process of organization of civil engineering provides the delivery of construc- tion materials, equipment to the civil engineering objects in the required quantities at the specifi ed time. Effective tool for solving this problem is logistics. The basic components of logistics costs, which occupy the largest share in the sum of all logistics costs, are trans- portation costs and storage costs. The civil engineering industry is very promising for the use of outsourcing. The main part of works on providing material and technical resources in most cases is transferred to the outsourcing of other companies, including the group of companies forming the holding. In large holding companies the chain of movement of materials, goods and productions: purchase of materials and goods, completion materials, production structures, storage, movement, transportation, etc. may include several compa- nies belonging in holding. The goods can be moved from one warehouse to another, with or without change of the owner of goods. Each company is obliged to show each move- ment of goods in their fi nancial accounting. During the goods’ movement within a group of companies from one storage to another, from one owner to another, the total costs of the goods rise. Sales within a group of companies lead, as a rule, to a gain by one of the companies and the logistic expenses of another company. Selling to a consumer provides a profi t to the seller company. Therefore, the problem of adequate allocation of logistics expenses and profi ts between separate legal entity and the task of continuous accounting and control of logistics costs and earnings in large companies, is vital.

Review of Malaysian Agricultural Policies with Regards to Sustainability

Review of Malaysian Agricultural Policies with Regards to Sustainability

Agriculture has been playing an important role in our livelihood and economic development and it is different from other economic activities. Unlike other economic activities agriculture is essential to human survival. This is because food is essential to life and agriculture is the basis of eco-systems and rural landscapes. What happens in agriculture is not only an economic issue; it also has important biological, environmental, social, cultural and ethical aspects. If agriculture is practiced in an unsustainable fashion, vital natural and cultural resources and qualities will be lost. Therefore the policies that apply to agriculture must be sustainable. In fact, sustainable agriculture is a term that has been used to indicate a more economically and environmentally sound and socially responsible system of agricultural production. Although there are literally hundreds of definitions of sustainable agriculture, one of the more widely accepted definitions, developed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is an integrated system of plant and animal production practices having a site-specific application that will, over the long-term: (i) satisfy human food and fiber needs; (ii) enhance environmental quality and the natural resource base upon which the

delivery systems [7]. Since then it has come to encompass any use of mobile telephony technology to address healthcare challenges such as access, quality, affordability, matching of resources, and behavioral norms [1]. mHealth technologies are a valuable partner in health care’s shift towards a delivery model that is patient-centered and value- based. Mobile technologies can help to facilitate that shift among clinicians, life scientists, and consumers by defining and directing the patient-centered model towards health care that is community-based, integrated, seamless, and assimilated into the daily lives of consumers accustomed to an ’on-demand’ environment. Globally, the demand for mHealth has also been growing. The global mHealth market was estimated at $1.2 billion in 2011 and experts project that the market’s value would increase to $11.8 billion by 2018, implying that the demand is growing at an annual growth rate of 39 percent. Kenya has been on the fore front in the application of the mobile phone technology platform in providing solution to the social problems in the community. Qiang [1] in a World Bank report on mobile applications for the health sector indicated that Kenya has been the cutting edge of the use of mobile technology for development, with its M-PESA mMoney scheme having become a model for similar programs around the world. However, the report revealed that, the country’s adoption of the mHealth technology remains low, while the landscape of the industry is changing rapidly as mHealth enterprises come and go. Half of the mHealth enterprises are less than two years old, and their commercial viability is still in question; only four percent are for profit, and none from any public sector are currently operating sustainably. Several mHealth programs in the country have been launched and run not for profit by the NGOs. For Instance, the Kenyan integrated mobile Maternal and Newborn Child Health information platform (KimMNCHip) which is a national scale effort to provide affordable and accessible mobile health solutions to all pregnant women and mothers with children under 5 everywhere in Kenya. It is run by a cross-sector partnership between the Government of Kenya, Safaricom, World Vision, Care, AMREF, and NetHope [8]. The programme was launched to make use of the 29.2 million mobile subscribers in Kenya on assumption that at least every household, has a phone therefore it is easy to reach the 41 million Kenyans through the mHealth platform.

Áreas prioritárias para a restauração no Cerrado : aumentando benefícios e reduzindo conflitos

Natural regeneration has been considered as a strategy to lower costs of restoration and help it to gain a larger scale. It has two main premises to happen: propagule source and local conditions that allow the establishment of those propagules. Overall, landscape connectivity plays a critical role in propagule dispersal, while land-use history has a direct effect on local conditions. The Brazilian Cerrado is the most biodiverse savanna in the world and provides essential ecosystem services. The biome is also very threatened by agriculture expansion and has over 4.3 Mha of land that must be restored according to the Brazilian Forest Code. Pastures cover around 29% of its territory in different levels of degradation and thus represent an excellent opportunity to meet the restoration goals. To estimate the potential of natural regeneration of these pastures, we developed a framework consisting of two steps: (a) to assess Cerrado’s landscape conditions based on the amount habitat and connectivity; and (b) merge this information with a Pasture Quality Index, used as a proxy to local conditions for propagule establishment. We also conducted a pilot field assessment in an area showing sites in different regeneration stages based on remote sensing. We found that most pastures in the Cerrado are located in poorly connected areas and present a low potential for natural regeneration. Our field assessment also revealed that restoration projects based on natural regeneration must be monitored and managed to guarantee its success as periodic disturbances such as fire events hinder the development of the plant community.

All the constructs in our model have reflective indicators. SOVC is a second-order construct that has first-order components of the formative type: in fluence, immersion, and membership. Following the guidelines of Hair, Hult, Ringle, and Sarstedt (2014), this study assesses the in- ternal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of the measurement model (see Table 3). Internal consistency is assessed by Cronbach's alfa (CA) and composite reliability (CR). Both values are above 0.7 for all latent variables. Convergent validity is assessed by the average variance extracted (AVE) and the loadings (see Appendix), which are above 0.5 and 0.7 respectively in almost all cases. Only the loading FC4 obtained a lower value (0.65), but we decided to keep it due to the proximity to 0.7. Finally, discriminant validity was tested using three criteria, (i) the cross-loadings, in which the loading of each indicator is greater than any of the cross-loadings, (ii) the Fornell and Larcker (1981), which requires that the square root of AVE should be greater than its correlation with any other construct, and (iii) Hetero- trait-Monotrait Ratio (HTMT) (Henseler, Ringle, & Sarstedt, 2015), which requires HTMT values below 0.9 (see Table 4) for good dis- criminant validity. We assess multicollinearity for formative constructs. SOVC is modelled as a higher-order re flective-formative type ( Becker et al., 2012). Multicollinearity is evaluated by the variance inflation factor (VIF). The VIF values range from 2.09 to 3.42, which are below 5, indicating no collinearity issues (see Table 5). Consequently, we con- clude that our measurement model is reliable and valid.
