As células da microglia são parte constante no sistema nervoso central apesar de sua distribuição diferir bastante (CASTELLANO et al., 1991). O fato de células geradas no epêndima aparecerem notadamente distintas em áreas ependimárias diferentes sujere que a migração radial e o recrutamento na principal camada celular não é somente limitada ao córtex medial (MOLOWNY et al., 1995; NACHER et al., 1999b).

No período compreendido da ontogênese do córtex dos lagartos, as células da micróglia aparecem no córtex cerebral após uma explosão de neurogênese cortical, o que sujere sua relação com o controle da neurogênese além da já conhecida atividade na remoção dos resíduos neuronais (NACHER et al., 1999a; 1999b).

A reatividade positiva da microglia do T. hispidus à técnica da lecitina abre espaço para posteriores e mais avançados estudos da morfofisiologia e funcionalidades da microglia nesse animal assim como ocorreu com o P. hispanica que é hoje um modelo experimental para estudos morfofisiológicos cerebrais (NACHER et al., 1999a; 1999b).

7 CONCLUSÃO

Tendo em vista todos os aspectos analisados, entende-se que o cérebro do lagarto Tropidurus hispidus, por suas características organizacionais e imunohistoquímicas na região do córtex medial, a relativa necessidade de novos modelos experimentais para estudos de plasticidade e regeneração no sistema nervoso e sua disponibilidade nessa região, é um modelo experimental viável e muito interessante para estudos de neurogênese e regeneração neural.
