Este estudo demonstra um aumento da frequência de micronúcleos nas células exfoliadas da mucosa oral, quer na Anorexia Nervosa, quer na Bulimia Nervosa, independentemente de os doentes induzirem ou não o vómito. Estes resultados demonstram o potencial genotóxico sistémico da má nutrição crónica e comportamentos compensatórios destas perturbações de comportamento alimentar, sendo necessários mais estudos para aferir as consequências alongo prazo e a real importância destes resultados em termos clínicos.
