Etomidato apresentou atividade antifúngica frente a cepas de Candida spp. resistentes ao fluconazol isolado e associado ao fluconazol e itraconazol. Etomidato apresentou atividade antifúngica frente aos biofilmes de cepas de Candida spp. resistentes ao fluconazol isolado e associado ao fluconazol e itraconazol. Etomidato reduziu a produção de manoproteínas, importantes para adesão, na membrana celular de C. albicans Etomidato, provavelmente, é um potencial inibidor da proteína ALS3. Etomidato não apresentou efeito citotóxico frente a células de fibroblastos de pulmão de hamster chinês (V79). Etomidato isolado e associado com fluconazol e itraconazol promovem produção de espécies reativas de oxigênio, alteração do potencial mitocondrial e externalização de fosfatidilserina, gerando alterações na membrana celular e apoptose em células de Candida albicans.
