Um inibidor de quimotripsina de Erythrina velutina, denominado recEvCI, foi clonado e expresso em Escherichia coli. recEvCI teve suas atividades multifuncionais avaliadas. O inibidor recombinante se mostrou ativo contra quimotripsina e elastase neutrofílica, demonstrando alta estabilidade estrutural em relação ao pH e desnaturação de pontes dissulfeto, preservando as atividades apresentadas pelo inibidor natural de quimotripsina de E. velutina – EvCI. recEvCI também apresentou massa molecular semelhante ao inibidor natural EvCI de aproximadamente 17 kDa. Não foi observada citotoxicidade (para células normais 3T3 e macrófagos) e possui atividades anticoagulante e pró-inflamatória em modelos in vitro. Portanto, a obtenção do inibidor recombinante representa um importante passo para torná-lo um candidato no desenvolvimento de fármacos que atuem em doenças relacionadas aos processos de coagulação e inflamação.
