- O consumo habitual de vitamina E durante os 60 dias pós-parto foi considerado inadequado para a totalidade das lactantes;
- As concentrações séricas médias de alfa-tocoferol referentes ao pós-parto imediato indicaram adequado estado nutricional em vitamina E, embora tenha havido elevação do percentual de deficiência de vitamina E no decorrer dos 60 dias, sem diferença entre os tratamentos administrados;
- Ambos os protocolos de suplementação materna não apresentaram efeito significativo sobre a vitamina E sérica durante a lactação;
- O protocolo de dose única manteve efeito sobre o leite materno até 20 dias pós-parto enquanto o protocolo duplo demonstrou efeito até 30 dias pós-parto. No entanto, ambos os protocolos não garantiram adequação total do fornecimento de vitamina E ao lactente ao alcançar o 60º dia;
- O requerimento diário de vitamina E para lactentes foi contemplado pelo leite materno sem suplementação somente até 7 dias pós-parto;
- Não foi constatada correlação entre o alfa-tocoferol do soro e do leite materno no curso da lactação, independente do tratamento administrado.
