Verificou-se que em todas as técnicas estudadas (IC, EA, ED e PUI) ocorre maior acumulação de SL no terço apical dos canais radiculares face às restantes porções e que nenhum método é capaz de a remover na sua totalidade. Do mesmo modo, as técnicas sónicas e ultrassónicas são em todos os casos mais eficazes do que a irrigação convencional. Aferiu-se ainda que, quando realizamos a ativação do irrigante após ou durante e após a instrumentação canalar, obtemos melhores resultados quando fazemos uso do segundo método.

Dada a heterogeneidade dos estudos, estes não são comparáveis pelo que não foi possível selecionar de entre as técnicas de ativação do irrigante qual a mais eficaz.

Todas as técnicas de ativação do irrigante se mostraram superiores à IC. Foi, ainda, possível concluir que a ativação do irrigante concomitantemente à instrumentação permite melhores resultados.

Apesar dos estudos não serem comparáveis, a PUI é a que apresenta resultados mais homogéneos para a remoção de Smear Layer ao longo de todo o canal e é indicada como uma das técnicas mais eficazes ao longo de todos os estudos.
