x O extrato bruto protéico da esponja Tedania ignis constitui uma rica fonte de lectinas, uma vez que aglutinou todos os eritrócitos humanos do sistema ABO tratados enzimaticamente com papaína, na presença de íons bivalentes.

x A lectina purificada de T. ignis apresentou especificidade para os eritrócitos do tipo B submetidos ao tratamento com papaína.

x A lectina demonstrou dependência pelo íon Mn+2 na concentração mínima de 33,3 mM.

x A lectina apresentou múltipla especificidade por carboidratos, sendo inibida principalmente por xilose, frutose, galactose e manose nas concentrações mínimas de 12,5, 25, 50 e 50 mM, respectivamente.

x A massa molecular da lectina, determinada em eletroforese sob condições desnaturantes, foi de 45 kDa.

x A temperatura ótima para a atividade hemaglutinante da lectina foi de 40ºC. x O pH ideal para a atividade hemaglutinante da lectina foi em torno de 7,5.

x A lectina presente na fração F1,0 da esponja T. ignis apresentou a capacidade de aglutinar Leishmania coradas com coomassie blue, provavelmente através de sítios com galactose presentes na superfície do parasita.

x A fração F1,0 de T. ignis, na presença de galactose, não é capaz de promover a aglutinação de Leishmania coradas com coomassie blue.
