O estudo Fitoquímico das folhas e frutos de Piper caldense C.DC. (Piperaceae) realizado por meio de métodos cromatográficos usuais e técnicas esectroscópicas de IV, RMN1H e 13C uni e bidimensionais permitiu isolar e identificar sete substâncias, sendo elas dois esteroides: -sitosterol (Pc-1a), estigmasterol (Pc-1b), duas substâncias porfirínicas: 15’- hidroxi-porfirinolactona a (Pc-2) , feofitina a (Pc-3) e três derivados do ácido benzoico: 3,4- dihidroxi-2-((2E,6E,10E)-3,7,11,15-tetrametilhexadeca-2,6,10,14-tetraen-1-il) ácido benzóico (Pc-4), 4-hidroxi-3-((2E,6E,10E)-3,7,11,15-tetrametilhexadeca-2,6,10,14-tetraen-1-il) ácido benzóico (Pc-5) e 3,4-dihidroxi-5-((2E,6E,10E)-3,7,11,15-tetrametilhexadeca-2,6,10,14- tetraen-1-il) ácido benzóico (Pc-6), contribuindo, dessa forma, para o conhecimento quimiotaxonômico do gênero Piper L. e da espécie botânica investigada, uma vez que há muito poucos relatos de estudos referentes a Piper caldense C.DC.
O estudo dos frutos de Piper caldense C.DC. está sendo descrito pela primeira vez neste trabalho.
Todos os compostos isolados estão sendo relatados pela primeira vez na espécie Piper
caldense C.DC, tendo sido já isolados em outras espécies botânicas do gênero Piper L.,
excetuando-se o composto codificado como Pc-2, que é inédito na família Piperaceae.
Extratos e frações selecionados para modulação de atividade microbiológica demonstraram atividade fungicida contra leveduras do gênero Candida sp, mais uma vez, ratificando a importância em dar continuidade aos estudos com a espécie Piper caldense C.DC., visando o isolamento de novos compostos bioativos, bem como a integração de outros estudos biológicos.
