A F1,0 rica em galactanas sulfatadas obtida da alga vermelha Hypnea musciformis foi a fração com melhor rendimento proveniente do fracionamento com acetona.

A fração possui alta concentração de açúcares totais e sulfato, com baixo teor de compostos fenólicos e baixa contaminação protéica. Sendo composta pelo monossacarídeo galactose, tratando-se da presença de galactanas sulfatadas na fração estudada de H. musciformis.

F1,0 mostrou sinais referentes a ligações S=O de ésteres de sulfato, presença de ligação C-O de 3,6-anidrogalactose, -D-galactose não sulfatada e ligação C-O-SO4 no C4 da galactose.

A F1,0 exibiu ação antioxidante significativa sobre o ensaio da peroxidação lipídica e no modelo de hemólise induzida por H2O2.

F1,0 apresentou baixa atividade anticoagulante nas concentrações testadas, atuando sobre a via intrínseca e comum, não apresentando atividade anticoagulante sobre a via extrínseca da coagulação.

A fração estudada promoveu moderada inibição direta sobre a atividade enzimática da trombina e baixa estimulação da atividade enzimática do FXa.

A F1,0 exibiu ação estimulatória significativa na síntese de heparam sulfato antitrombótico (4,6 vezes) pelas células endoteliais em cultura quando comparadas com o controle.

F1,0 apresentou ação citostática uma vez que inibiu a proliferação de células da aorta de coelho pelo ensaio de MTT, o que pode ter sido ocasionado pela parada do ciclo celular (não progressão da fase S para fase G2) promovida pela fração estudada. No entanto, a F1,0 não causou morte celular por apoptose ou necrose, ou seja, não mostrou ação citotóxica, quando avaliada por citometria de fluxo.
