A doença provoca sempre um estado de ansiedade e insegurança, sendo maior em situações de doença aguda, pelo que um correto tratamento de doentes nestas situações é fundamental.
Assim, e como já foi possível constatar, nem sempre os doentes conseguem fazer uma escolha acertada quanto ao melhor local para tratamento, o que pode levar a situações de rutura dos serviços, como é visto de forma recorrente nos nossos Serviços de Urgência. Desta forma, urge a tomada de medidas que visem encaminhar de forma adequada os utentes para o melhor local para o tratamento da doença aguda não urgente, e aqui nasce o projeto de Referenciação de doentes para os Cuidados de Saúde Primários no Hospital Santa Maria Maior em Barcelos, que foi objeto de análise na presente dissertação.
Apesar das limitações que o estudo apresentou, em particular pelo reduzido número de utentes referenciados, esta avaliação inicial efetuada permitiu-nos constatar que não só a aceitação por parte dos doentes foi superior ao esperado, como a segurança dos doentes parece estar salvaguardada. Estes dois pontos dão mais garantias de que esta medida poderá continuar de forma mais estruturada no futuro, sendo importante manter um acompanhamento ao longo de todas as fases da mesma.
Esta dissertação constitui, ainda, uma abordagem inicial no sentido da melhor compreensão das consequências da implementação deste projeto, pelo que estudos futuros se revelam necessários para complementar as conclusões alcançadas. De entre as questões importantes que este estudo coloca, cumpre salientar o motivo para a baixa referenciação por parte dos triadores, depois de se perceber que se tratam de doentes não urgentes e que existe capacidade de resposta por parte dos CSP, sendo igualmente importante perceber qual a realidade persentida por parte destes últimos.
O estudo poderá, ainda, ser importante para a própria instituição, pois revela que, apesar de poucas referenciações até ao momento, aquelas que foram efetuadas foram, quase totalmente, acertadas, havendo ainda inúmeros doentes que poderão beneficiar deste modelo e, assim, beneficiar o hospital e, sobretudo, a saúde das populações por ele servidas.
