Este estágio permitiu-me acompanhar as atividades do Médico Veterinário em contexto hospitalar e assim pôr em prática os conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo dos cinco anos do curso de Medicina Veterinária. Tomámos a decisão de realizar o estudo neste tema devido ao meu interesse nas áreas da Oncologia e da Nefrologia e à inexistência de estudos que avaliem a existência de proteinuria em gatos com linfoma ou outras neoplasias.

Apesar das suas várias limitações, este estudo preliminar permitiu tirar algumas conclusões, nomeadamente que os animais com linfoma têm ratios UPC em média, estatisticamente superiores aos de gatos saudáveis. Em estudos futuros, seria muito importante aumentar o numero da amostra analisada, o que poderia permitir a realização de um estudo comparativo por tipos de linfoma e por estádios clínicos, por forma a esclarecer a importância clínica da proteinuria como marcador de diagnóstico e de prognóstico nestas neoplasias.

A possibilidade de usar a proteinuria como marcador de outras doenças que não a doença renal crónica deve também ser investigada, uma vez que este é um parâmetro de fácil recolha e avaliação, sendo minimamente invasivo para o animal e pode ser determinado numa amostra momentânea de urina.
