Apenas a origem e a porção proximal de cada ligamento são visíveis ao exame ultrassonográfico, pois a porção distal do LC está localizada dentro da cápsula do casco31. A qualidade de imagem é altamente variável entre indivíduos, e pode não se obter as imagens esperadas, mesmo em cavalos normais. O casco, por ser uma estrutura queratinizada, representa a principal limitação para o uso da ultrassonografia na avaliação do LC, pois restringe a janela acústica disponível para o exame do ligamento apenas ao perioplo e banda coronária7. Além disso, mesmo nos exames de ressonância magnética existem dificuldades, devido ao posicionamento e angulação dos LCs da
