4.3. Notas Finais
Os resultados deste estudo são importantes porque revelam algumas das principais dimensões dos usos e gratificações da utilização política do Facebook. A diversidade de atitudes e comportamentos da amostra de estudantes universitários, face
à comunicação política nesta rede social, demonstra que: i) O Facebook permite, para além do uso recreativo e comunicacional, uma experiência política a um nível mais interpessoal e gratificante, o que não nos parece possível, pelo menos por enquanto, nas fontes tradicionais de notícias e até mesmo nas suas variantes online; ii) Apesar dos níveis de envolvimento e auto eficácia política serem reduzidos, os indivíduos têm a perceção de que a informação política está disponível e é, pelo menos, potencialmente comunicável; iii) Embora não procurem ativamente informações sobre assuntos políticos, eles encontram-nas no Facebook.
De facto, o Facebook proporciona que se fale mais sobre os mais diversos assuntos, mas isso não quer dizer que se discuta melhor esses assuntos. É claro que a comunicação na Web 2.0 se tornou mais veemente que no passado recente, mas isso também não quer dizer que comuniquemos melhor. Temos mais acesso a informação, mas isso não quer dizer que essa informação seja melhor aproveitada. No entanto, há um dado que nos parece indubitável: o Facebook veio permitir à sua vasta comunidade de utilizadores a supressão de inúmeras barreiras. Potencialmente, todos os utilizadores do Facebook têm visibilidade mediática e são contactáveis em qualquer altura e em qualquer lugar, embora exista uma grande diferença face aos modelos comunicacionais que o antecederam: agora todas as informações e atividades pessoais ficam registadas e arquivadas em servidores. No sentido institucional, este procedimento não está sujeito a qualquer vigilância pública. Ainda não são claramente conhecidos os seus interesses e propósitos, o que, no limite, pode transformar o incremento de algumas liberdades numa diminuição de outras.
