Torna-se essencial mencionar que este estudo não pode ser generalizado, devido ao tamanho da nossa amostra; para termos dados mais fiáveis, teríamos de possuir uma amostra que fosse representativa da população em estudo. Uma outra desvantagem, que pode influenciar de certa forma os resultados obtidos, é o facto desta não ser aleatória. É pertinente, num futuro próximo alargar o estudo realizado, uma vez que o número de população idosa tende a aumentar.
Este estudo demonstrou que existe, ainda, em volta da sexualidade no idoso um grande preconceito e tabu. Em pleno século XXI considera-se que o idoso é um ser assexuado que não tem “desejos” como os jovens.
Um dado que nos surpreendeu foi a depressão não vir associada negativamente à sexualidade provavelmente, devido ao baixo nível de depressão da amostra.
Por fim, também foi possível, após a conclusão do estudo, verificar que uma maior satisfação conjugal contribui para menores índices de depressão nesta faixa etária e que esta e a satisfação sexual não são influenciadas pela idade dos idosos.
Devemos considerar os idosos na sua plenitude, ou seja, que tal como os jovens eles têm sentimentos, têm necessidades e que essas mesmas têm de ser asseguradas. A satisfação conjugal e a sexualidade na terceira idade devem ser encaradas com naturalidade pela sociedade e não como um sinal de leviandade dos idosos.
