O sistema de cultivo in vitro mostrou-se ideal para testar os efeitos do ácido jasmônico em sementes de soja, em razão de sua grande reprodutibilidade, condições controladas e perfeito isolamento dos efeitos dos tratamentos testados.

Assim, os resultados obtidos permitiram concluir que o fornecimento exógeno de ácido jasmônico aos meios em que os explantes de soja foram cultivados, induz a síntese de lipoxigenases nas sementes de linhagens normais, com concomitante aumento significativo da síntese de inibidores de proteases. No entanto, em sementes de linhagens desprovidas de lipoxigenases, o fornecimento exógeno de ácido jasmônico não foi capaz de induzir a síntese de inibidores de proteases dependentes de lipoxigenases.

Conclui-se, portanto, que o ácido jasmônico somente é capaz de induzir a síntese de inibidores de proteases em sementes de soja via indução de lipoxigenases. Assim, em sementes que apresentam ausência completa dessas enzimas não observou efeito do ácido jasmônico no que concerne à indução da síntese de inibidores de proteases.
