5.2. T RABALHOS F UTUROS
Face aos objectivos e conclusões extraídas deste trabalho há aspectos que se considera que requerem um maior aprofundamento:
Continuar o estudo da aplicabilidade dos ensaios em condições aceleradas (exposição em câmara saturada e em imersão) e naturais de avaliação da expansibilidade para obter mais informações sobre o progresso dos dois tipos de tratamentos numa fase mais avançada das reacções.
Aplicar a mesma metodologia em condições de acesso de humidade com cilcos alternados de secagem de forma a melhor reproduzir as condições reais de uma estrutura.
Complementar a caracterização efectuada com outras técnicas analíticas, nomeadamente, difracção de raios-X, análise termogravimétrica, espectroscopia de impedância, de modo a obter mais informações a nível dos mecanismos de inibição por parte do ião lítio.
Estudar a influência do estado inicial de degradação do betão na penetração do ião lítio.

da DEF
I.1.MECANISMO DE EXPANSÃO DA RAS
Os mecanismos descritos na bibliografia apresentam não só um largo consenso quanto ao desenvolvimento da RAS, bem como se baseiam na noção de geles de sílica. Estes são os produtos que se encontram em todas as estruturas de betão degradadas por RAS, essencialmente localizados em redor dos agregados, nas fissuras e nos poros da pasta de cimento. São estes geles os responsáveis pela expansão.
O mecanismo de expansão é o principal ponto de desacordo entre os autores. Esta divergência pode ser atribuída às diferentes condições de estudo e à diversidade dos materiais utilizados.
I.1.1. Modelo de Dent-Glasser e Kataoka
Quando o meio onde a sílica se encontra é um meio alcalino, iões hidroxilo que penetraram na estrutura da sílica, atacam as ligações Si-O-Si quebrando a sua estrutura. Ao mesmo tempo, iões alcalinos difundem-se para o interior para manter a electroneutralidade, e como eles tendem a formar esferas solvatadas por atracção da água, a sua presença aumenta a tendência para embeber água. A sílica é então convertida num polielectrólito que sendo menos rígido nas suas ligações pode expandir- se e embeber mais líquido. De seguida mais iões hidroxilo atingem o interior e o processo continua inevitavelmente.
Se reacções deste tipo ocorrerem em betões expostos a humidade, o efeito pode ser agravado porque cada ciclo de secagem e hidratação fornece um líquido com uma nova reserva de álcalis que é embebido pela sílica decomposta. Como processo de desintegração, à medida que aumenta a imbibição, são geradas pressões e estas eventualmente tornam-se suficientes para provocar a fissuração no betão [Dent Glasser, L., 1979].
I.1.2. Modelo de Poole
O mecanismo proposto por Poole [1992] (figura 84) reconstrói o modelo de Dent- Glasser e Kataoka aumentando uma etapa com a intervenção dos iões cálcio. O modelo sugere a quebra das ligações siloxano (representada pela equação 2 do modelo de Dent- Glasser e Kataoka) adjacentes aos grupos silanol SiOH, distorcendo a estrutura da sílica e reduzindo a estabilidade local da rede. O sistema é dinâmico na medida em que as ligações siloxano quebram, formando novas ligações à medida que a água e os iões alcalinos penetram na estrutura. Quanto mais aberta se encontrar a estrutura e quanto maior for o estado de hidratação mais rapidamente é atacada.
Os iões cálcio devido à sua dupla carga positiva, e à sua capacidade de adsorver grande quantidade de moléculas de água, tendem a permanecer próximo da superfície do gel em desenvolvimento como uma fase CSH13, que é menos solúvel em solução alcalina que os geles de sódio ou potássio.
No betão, as soluções intersticiais são principalmente constituídas por soluções fortemente concentradas em hidróxidos de sódio e de potássio mas os iões cálcio encontram-se também disponíveis. À medida que um gel se expande por absorção de água a rede abre-se o suficiente para permitir a penetração dos iões cálcio, onde podem substituir os iões alcalinos regenerando-os permitindo que a reacção continue [Poole, A.B., 1992].
