ABSTRACT
This work aims at showing the possibility and advantages of Persistence in' Java using JDO (Java Data Objects), through the application of this tecnology in a Case Study.
At first, the evolution of the methods of software development is related and theimportance of Object Orientation is located.The modeling language UML (Unified Mode!ing Language) is shown from the observation of the main kinds of diagrams:
UseCases,Class and Sequence.
Afterwards, the technologies which were used are introduced through the description of their characteristics and goals. The JDO's features are presented in detail: architecture, persistence management, tools for development, required softwares,procedure and flow of development and Lido. The characteristics for Open SourceFirebird database are briefed and followed by a short demonstration of RMI (RemoteMethod Invocation).

Eventually, the PSaude system is shown as an option of computerized systemthat enables agility, security and liability for the management of the register tasksand query of patients and ernployees' information in a Health Center.
