MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE POSTDOCTORAL

FELLOWSHIPS 2021

ICS-ULISBOA HOST INSTITUTION

Within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Postdoctoral Fellowships (HORIZON-MSCA-PF-2021-01) programme promoted under Horizon Europe, the Instituto de Ciências Sociais [Institute of Social Sciences] of the University of Lisbon, Portugal (ICS-ULisboa) is now accepting applications from researchers in the areas of social and cultural anthropology, political science, economics, human geography, history, social psychology and sociology. Applicants’ work plans are expected to fit ICS-ULisboa’s Research Groups.

ICS-ULisboa is an international, inter- disciplinary academic research centre gathering researchers from many different areas of the social sciences as well as from various countries. The Institute, which was evaluated in 2019 as an ‘Institution of Excellence’ by international panels, offers excellent working conditions, financial support for research and international networks. Its premises are located in Lisbon, a beautiful and historical city offering a rich array of cultural and social activities.

Along with the possibility to join the Institute’s vibrant research environment and

benefit from its wide international network, successful candidates will be provided with equipped office space, e-mail and internet access, as well as free access to library facilities.

Expressions of interests for applications having ICS-ULisboa as a Host Institution (beneficiary) will be evaluated within the framework of both European and Global Postodoctoral Fellowships.

Eligibility - Supported fellows must be postdoctoral researchers at the date of the call deadline (12th October 2021), i.e. in possession of a doctoral degree. Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered as postdoctoral researchers and will be considered eligible to apply.

At the call deadline, supported researchers must have a maximum of 8 years fulltime equivalent experience in research, measured from the date of award of the doctoral degree. Years of experience outside research and career breaks (e.g. for parental leave) will not count towards the amount of research experience.

Eligible candidates must comply with MSCA mobility rules:

• For European Postdoctoral Fellowships:

they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the call deadline.

• For Global Postdoctoral Fellowships (include a research period in a Third Country, followed by a reintegration period at the Host Institution): they cannot have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organisation for the outgoing phase takes place for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the call deadline.

Manifestations of interest must be

submitted to ICS-ULisboa through the form available at the following link:

1. A detailed curriculum vitae

2. A cover letter describing the candidate’s current research interests

3. One copy of each of two relevant publications (or, alternatively, writing samples)

4. A research proposal, according to the guidelines provided in the online form;

5. Two letters of recommendation. At least one of them must be from a non-

Portuguese institution. Referees must send their letters directly to

mscurie@ics.ulisboa.pt.

Candidates are also asked to indicate the researcher who will be responsible for supervising their work plan at ICS-ULisboa.

In case the candidate cannot provide such information, the evaluation panel will assign a supervisor based on the profile of the candidate and the proposal.

The deadline for submitting applications to ICS-ULisboa has been extended to August 10th, 11:59 pm (Lisbon time).

The decision to host the candidate will be notified via e-mail as late as September 10th, 2021. Selected candidates will receive full support from the Institute’s R&D unit and supervisors to develop their proposal throughout the submission process.

The final deadline for submissions into the Funding & tender opportunities portal is October 12th, 2021, 5 pm (Brussels time).
