This manual describes the installation, operation and maintenance of the comfort air curtain model CITY, CYQ, CYV. This manual refers to the manuals of the Daikin components (outdoor unit, indoor unit, control panel, etc.). The built-in model is designed for installation in a suspended ceiling or in a cove, with the suction opening possibly at some distance from the unit.

The cassette model is designed for installation above a false ceiling, with the suction opening close to the unit and easy access to the unit. The air curtain is controlled and operated partly by the Daikin system and partly by the Biddle system. The table below provides an overview of available models of the comfort air curtain and the associated type designations.

The comfort air curtain is mainly used in business premises at an ambient temperature of max. No adjustments or changes may be made to the device that could affect its safety without permission from Biddle.

  • Fixing the suspension brackets
  • Suspending and securing the unit

Connecting the unit to the central heating installation

  • Particulars
  • Frost protection
  • Connect the unit
  • Connecting the discharge temperature control (accessory)

Connecting the unit to the Daikin system (CYQ and CYV)

  • Preconditions for connection to a Daikin system
  • Connection of the control system All models
  • Connecting the cooling medium
  • Settings on the Daikin control panel

Solder the lines to the pipes that protrude from the top of the unit. You can make local settings on the Daikin control panel as described in the corresponding installation manual.

Connecting the unit to the power supply

  • All models
  • Fuse ratings
  • CITY W/A, CYQ and CYV
  • CITY-E
  • Connecting the unit (CITY E)

Ensure that an earthed (earthed) power point is available at a maximum of 1.5 m from the left side of the unit. You can choose to use either a plugged-in power supply cable or an isolation switch. An isolation switch (not supplied) must be fitted between the unit and the power supply.

Installing control panel and external controls (CITY and CYV)

  • Control panel details Positioning
  • Installing the touch pad controller 1. Open the switch
  • Connecting control panel to unit
  • Connecting external controls (option)
  • Functions of the inputs
  • Unit output (CYV)
  • Initialising the touch pad controller

The control panel connections G and E are located on the connection plate 3 on the upper side of the unit. 30 cm free cable length: It will be necessary to remove the electronics when servicing the unit. The connection plate on the upper side of the unit has three inputs (X72) for connecting external controls.

The inputs can be used to change the operating state of the device without user intervention. Connect the cable for the external controls (if used) to the terminals on the connection plate. A control component's functions depend on the terminals to which the component is connected and on the settings on the interface.

Local: The control component is active on the device to which the component is connected. Global: The control component is active not only on the device to which the component is connected, but also on all other devices connected to the same touchpad controller. The range is set to local by default. To set the control range to global, a jumper must be moved on the interface (block X64).

The interface is located inside the unit and is accessible after removing the inspection panel. If you do not install a control component, the jumper must remain in place: without the jumper, the unit will not function. The unit can only be switched on and off when the Daikin system is active.

Contacts on the terminals on block X72 only have one function when the activation switch is closed by the Daikin system. The device is turned off and cannot be turned on or off via the touchpad controller. The number of flashes of the LED corresponds to the number of devices connected to the touchpad controller.

Control system without touch pad controller (CITY and CYV)

  • Modifying the interface
  • Connection of control components

In order for the touchpad controller to know how many units are connected, it must be initialized. To adapt the device for use without a touchpad controller, the interface must be modified. A function is activated when a control component makes contact between the connected terminals as shown in the figure.

If you want to connect several units (max. 10) to 1 control component, the wiring must be connected at the connections between the units.

Finishing the unit

  • Finishing free-hanging models Fitting inlet grilles
  • Finishing recessed models General
  • Finishing cassette models
