In der
vorliegenden
Arbeit werden Kristallstrukturen undmagnetische Eigenschaften
dreier
Uran-Systeme
diskutiert. Eine genaue Kenntnis der Kristallstruktur istunumgänglich
für eine Diskussion derphysikalischen Eigenschaften,
wie unsereMessungen
an UPtzeigten.
Wir konnten diemagnetische
Struktur von UPt,die in derLiteratur falsch beschrieben wurde, mit Hilfe von
Röntgendiffraktions-
undNeutronendiffraktions-Messungen
bestimmen. Dies wurdemöglich,
weil wirunsvorherintensiv mit der verwandten Substanz Ulr

und dorteinekristallographische Verzerrung
entdeckt hatten. Diemagnetische
Strukturvon UPt, fürwelche Lawson etal.(1986)
einkomplexes
chirales Modellvorgeschlagen
hatten, erwies sich beirichtiger Interpretation
als einfachferromagnetisch.
Anschliessend wurde dasSystem

A ABSTRACT
In the present work we discuss the
crystal
structures andmagnetic properties
of threeuranium Systems. Our measurements on UPt show that a
precise knowledge
of thecrystal
structure is veryimportant
for the discussion of thephysical properties. By
means of
X-ray
andneutron diffraction measurementsweproved
that both the nuclear and themagnetic
structureofUPtreported
in the literatureare incorrect. This conclusionwasthe result ofour
previous
detailedcrystallographic
researchon Ulrin which we hadfound that Ulr is not the
simple Compound
we hadexpected.
Indeed we discoveredsimilar distortions in UPt.Moreover, the
complicated
chiralmagnetic
structureproposed by
Lawsonetal.(1986)
for UPt turnedout tobesimple ferromagnetic. Subsequently
wecarriedout
specific heat, resistivity
andmagnetisation
measurementson theSystem Ulr- UPt. An RKKY-reminiscentdependence
ofthe Curie temperatureon the numberofthe valenceelectronsof the 5delementwasfound.Our attemptto
synthesize
theCompound UAU3
described in the literature{Albers
etal.(1985),
Marksteiner et al.(1986)}
as aheavy-fermion-system
resulted indiscovering
two errors in the
phase diagram
of Buzzard and Park(1954):
Thephases U2AU3
andUAU3 reported
in the literature{Fisk
et al(1984),
Schneider and Laubschat(1981), (1987)}
turned outto benonmagnetic UAu2
andantiferromagnetic U14AU51 (Tn
= 22K). UAU3
does notexist under normal conditions.Low-temperature neutron-diffraction, magnetisation

basedon anantiferromagnetic
structure withtwoferromagnetic sublattices, assuming

Deryagin
and Andreev(1976) suggested
a veryhigh
Kerr effect inUC05.3.
Wehoped
that the uranium atoms would ordermagnetically
and that, due totheir
contribution,
thequite high
Kerreffect ofthe lanthanideCompounds
ofthe typeLnCos
could be exceeded. Our neutronexperiments,
however showed that the correctcomposition
of thephase
isUC05
and that uraniumdoes not ordermagnetically
down to15 K. Measurements of Brändle et al.
(1988)
showed that the Kerr rotation is of thesameorderas in the
