Leadership Skills for Non-Profit Organizations

Course Description

This workshop provides new insights on leadership development in international organizations and non-profit entities with particular focus on understanding the skills and mindset required to emerge as a leader in the post- pandemic normal.

The workshop is a foundational experience for students who want to emerge as leaders in their youth and for those who wonder if leadereship is for them. At the end of the workshop, each student will be able to beging their own individual leadership journey.

This workshop is highly interactive: it includes three parts formatted as seminars with regular interactions with the students and individual and group exercises.

Guided by a senior expert with 30 years of experience, students will explore leadership theories and practices with unique insights and learn together techniques to lead in non-profit organizations.

Overview of the Course The goals of this course are:

1. To provide students with a bold view of the paradigm shift in leadership required in international organizations to survive ongoing changes and thrive in the post-pandemic normal.

2. To offer students practical tools and initial collective coaching to begin their own leadership development journey in alignment with their individual talents and aspirations.

Structure

The workshop develops in three parts:

1. Introduction & Theory

2. Practical guide: leadership in non-profit organizations today and tomorrow 3. The leadership development journey

Through a mix of learning, interaction and collective coaching, students will have the follow opportunities:

 Understand what leadership means in non-profit organizations how it is different from the corporate world;

 Distinguish between leadership, authority and competence and become familiar with courageous leadership, leading through others, and sustaining leadership in times of change;

 Learn how leadership is an individual trait that creates an organizational response, and know how to use its potential, with practical “dos and don’ts”;

 Posses an initial set of tools to lead teams and meetings, create and accelerate organizational culture, and act consistently as a leader.

Learning outcomes

a) Knowledge: students will understand the evolution and practice of leadership in the non- profit sector and become familiar with the typology of leadership and leadership styles.

b) Skills: students will learn techniques to build leadership cultures in non-profit organizations, apply adaptive change, and sustain constant improvement in.

c) Attitudes: students will recognize and experiment with the mindsets required to lead when not in charge and during highly uncertain contexts.

Course Requirements

There is no preparatory work required to attend this workshop. However full-time attendance and an open, beginner-mindset are absolute requirements for this workshop.

Course Evaluation

Grading and obtaining the 3 ECTS for this course will be on a pass-fail basis. Criteria will be punctual and full attendance as well as the degree of active participation in the interactions and exercises throughout the 2 days.
