1 Time to look at girls: migrants in Bangladesh and Ethiopia

Documentary Film Screenings:

- LOVA International Summer School, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 17 August 2015. 25 people attended (participants, teachers and organizers of the Summer School, mainly anthropologists)

- Time to look at girls: project closing workshop: Addis Ababa, 20 October 2015, 35 people attended, with after film discussion with two Ethiopian protagonists - French Centre of Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa, 20 October 2015 – 22 people attended, with after film discussion with two Ethiopian protagonists

- NIKAT – charitable organisation of sex‐workers in Addis Ababa, 21 October 2015 ‐ 15 people attended, the majority sex workers (many girl migrants) with after film discussion with one of the Ethiopian protagonists.

- Afhad University for Women, Omdurman, Sudan, The Regional Institute of Rights, Gender, and Peace: 22 October 2015 ‐ 15 master students and 2 professors attended the screening

- Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands. 26 October 2015. 40 people attended, mainly Master and PhD students from developing countries but also four people from Terre des Hommes Netherlands.

- Catholic Church Organization, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 4 November 2015. 51 people were present (29 of them staff, 3 from the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat, 2 from small NGOs, 13 from different parishes, 2 interested individuals, and 2 priests)

- French Research Centre, CEDEJ, Khartoum, Sudan – 14 November 2015 – screening for 15 people

- Conference on the Migration in the Horn of Africa, CEDEJ, Khartoum, Sudan – 18 November 2015 – screening for 60 people

VU University Amsterdam – November 19 2015, at the EASA Anthropology of Youth and Children Seminar. There were 10 people (MA students, one PhD student and two staff members). They were impressed, and found the girls very strong and the editing very well done. (see blog for reactions:

Bangladesh Dhaka, at the Terre des Hommes Italy office. 27 November, 2015, There were 7 migrants present and 3 of the adolescent girls who were research assistants in the project.

2 - Bangladesh, Dhaka ‐ 29 November, 2015: shown as a supporting

dissemination tool of the research at the Closing Workshop of the Project, at BRAC INN in Dhaka. The main findings of the research in Bangladesh were presented and

discussed. The Workshop was hosted by Terre des Hommes Italy and there were 35 participants from among others: Save The children, Population Council, IOM,

Narpokkho, TDH Lausanne, SDC. There were also 2 migrants and the whole research team.

- VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 3 December, 2015 – Amsterdam Ethnographic Film Festival. 100 people attended (mainly anthropology students and teachers from all over the Netherlands)

- Migration Research Centre, Warsaw, Poland, December 22, 2015 – screening of the film and a presentation of findings from the research in Sudan. 20 persons

participated, including mainly researchers and PhD students working on migration issues.

- VU University Amsterdam, course on international development, lecture on gender and development, 12 January 2016: 75 students attended.

- London, SOAS, March 15, 2016: some 60 people attended, including students, academics, activists, policy makers, including people from Flamingo and former Girl Effect staff.

- Gold Smith University, London, March 18, 2016: film screened to a third year and MA group, and a couple of PhD students and postdocs came too.

- Girls Studies Conference, 8 April, University of East Anglia, Norwich, 2016 The film was shown in the panel we organized “Adolescent Girls’ Migration in the South:

Gender, Agency and Lifecycle.” About ten people attended. There was a discussion about agency, whether the film shows the agency of girls enough.

- Warsaw University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, Institute of Psychology, May 2016: shown for the 4th year psychology students.

- Amsterdam, High‐school, April 17, 2016. Film screened for 12 high‐school students in a masterclass on Migration and Refugees.

- University of Parma, Italy, Faculty of Psychology 20 April 2016. About 50 students of psychology 4th year attended and 4 faculty members.

- University of Pavia, Masters Gender and Migration May 7th 2016. The screenings of the documentary was in the context of a 12 hours thought module on Gender and Migration in South Asia. The 15 students of the curse were all present.

2016 – some 40 people attended the screening, students, academics, policy and activists.

- Warsaw, University of Warsaw, Institute of Ethnology, the Big Room, Ethnography Lab, 4 July, 2016 – some 45 people attended, very diverse audience.
