01 About MEGAJOULE

MEGAJOULE has been founded in February 2004 by three engineers with a solid

background and experience as wind energy, and wind resource assessment in

particular, consultants.

During its seven years of activity, MEGAJOULE operated more than 200 met masts for

wind assessment purposes, on behalf of its clients, performed wind resource

assessment studies for more than 10 GW of wind capacity and participated in several

due-diligence processes, for financing or negotiation of wind farm projects or

portfolios. MEGAJOULE is also active in solar resource assessment, having performed

studies and due-diligences for around 100 MW of projects in Portugal, Spain, Romania

and East-Timor.

Furthermore, MEGAJOULE is very active internationally, with offices in Portugal, Brazil

and Poland. The international market represented, in 2010, more than 50% of

MEGAJOULE’s turnover.

Our track record contemplates projects performed in several different countries:

Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia,

Moldova, Ukraine, Greece, Israel, Brazil, Uruguay, USA, Mexico, Angola, Cape Verde,

South Africa, Australia and East Timor.

MEGAJOULE created an innovation branch, MEGAJOULE Inovação, dedicated to

advanced flow and mesoscale modeling. Counting on the expertise of meteorologist

and PhD specialized in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) MEGAJOULE intends to

develop new methodologies and services in the near future. Evermore, the CFD has

established itself as an essential tool to simulate wind flow over complex terrain, but

also a way mitigate uncertainty on the project.

In what concerns training, MEGAJOULE organizes, in cooperation with Lusófona

University of Porto, a Post-Graduation in Renewable Energies, which has concluded

three editions.

02 Management

MEGAJOULE’s management is guaranteed by its founders:

Miguel Ferreira

Mechanical Engineer and MBA, he is a wind energy consultant since 1992. Before

founding MEGAJOULE, Miguel Ferreira was Director of INEGI’s wind energy business

unit. For 6 years, he taught Renewable Energies at the Lusófona University of Porto.

He is a member of the European Wind Energy Technology Platform

(www.windplatform.eu) and of the Program Committee of the European Wind Energy

Conferences, where he published several technical and business papers.

Paulo Pinto

MSc in Mechanical Engineering, he is a wind energy consultant since 1997. Before

founding MEGAJOULE, Paulo Pinto was a senior consultant of INEGI’s wind energy

business unit. For several years, he taught several modules at the Polytechnic Institute

of Bragança and Renewable energies at the Lusófona University of Porto. He is a

member of the Program Committee of the European Wind Energy Conferences, where

he published several technical papers.

Ricardo Guedes

Mechanical Engineer, he is a wind energy consultant since 2001. Before founding

MEGAJOULE, Ricardo Guedes was a senior project manager at INEGI’s wind energy

business unit. He is a member of the Program Committee of the European Wind Energy

Conferences, where he published several technical papers, one selected for an oral

presentation at 2009’s conference. He is also a member of the IEC standardization

commission for wind energy.
