PUBLIC NOTICE OF THE SELECTION PROCESS – PHD PROGRAM IN ECONOMICS

Fundação Getulio Vargas announces the opening of the registrations for the Selection Process of the Doctor’s Degree in Economics Course for the year 2018 of the FGV EPGE - Brazilian School of Economics and Finance.

1. CONDITIONS

1.1 The registration is open for applicants with Undergraduate and/or Master’s degrees, in course recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) or validated by the Brazilian government;

1.2 In the case of an Undergraduate and/or Master Degree Diploma obtained in foreign institutions, the document must be consularized or apostilled in accordance with the Hague Convention, in addition to the sworn translation of said document;

1.3 Applicants in the phase of conclusion of the Undergraduate course will be allowed to register;

1.4 Brazilian and foreign candidates, whether or not resident in Brazil, may participate in the Selection Process, provided that their registration is made within the period established in this Public Notice.

2. THE OPPORTUNITIES

2.1 Ten (10) opportunities will be offered and their filling will comply with the classification criteria set forth in item 4 of this Public Notice.

2.2 The Selective Process is valid for admission to the 4th educational quarter of 2017, and there is no reserve of places for subsequent admissions.

2.3 The admission will be conditioned to the approval and classification within the limit of opportunities established in the Public Notice.

2.4 FGV/EPGE, guaranteeing the quality of the academic process proposed for the course, reserves the right not to fill the total number of places offered in this Public Notice.

3. THE REGISTRATION 3.1 the general information

a. The registrations will be made only through the Internet – attachment I;

b. The applicant is responsible for the accuracy of the information rendered in the registration form;

c. The registration will only be confirmed after submission of the physical documentation;

d. Only applicants who send all the documentation within the defined deadline will be able to participate in the Selective Process.

3.2 formalizing of registration

The registration will be formalized upon delivery of the following documentation to the SRA – Secretariat of Academic Records:

a. Certified copy of the Identity Document;

b. Certified copy of the Passport (foreign applicants);

c. Copy of the Vitae or Lattes curriculum (http://lattes.cnpq.br) attached to the copies of the most relevant works, if any;

d. Certified copy of the Undergraduate Degree Diploma;

e. Certified copy of the Undergraduate School Record;

f. In case of a course attended abroad, the applicant must present the Undergraduate Degree Diploma with the consularization of the documents or the apostille, according to the Hague Convention, in addition to the sworn translation of said document;

g. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation, presented by professionals, researchers or professionals attesting academic aptitude - attachment II;

h. Results with the score and classification in the ANPEC (National Association of Postgraduate Centers in Economics) exam held as of 2012 and/or GRE (Graduate Record Examination – General Test);

i. Registration Form;

j. Other documents that the applicant deems appropriate to assess his/her research potential.

3.2.1 If the applicant needs to access the Exams Calendars:

a. ANPEC: www.anpec.org.br;

b. GRE: www.ets.org/gre/

3.2.2 The applicant registered in the ANPEC exam and/or GRE in 2017 must send the proof of registration to the email [email protected];

3.2.1 In the case of applicants residing in a domicile outside Rio de Janeiro, the documentation may be sent via SEDEX to FGV/SRA – Secretaria de Registros Acadêmicos (Secretariat of Academic Records), with a maximum posting date up to the last day of registration, according to Schedule – attachment I;

3.2.2 Documents forwarded without due authentication will invalidate the applicant’s registration;

3.2.3 The registration will only be accepted upon presentation of the above described complete documentation.

4. THE SELECTION CRITERIA

4.1 Applicants for the Doctor’s Degree Program will be selected by a Commission composed of Program Teachers, which will take into account, in addition to other attributes, the Letters of Recommendation, possibilities and aptitude of the applicant to carry out academic work and the applicant’s performance in the ANPEC exams or GRE. The criteria are judged by a Committee that will assess and select applicants who have the profile desired by the School;

4.3 Only the applicant approved in all stages of the selection process will be allowed to confirm the enrollment.

5. THE GENDER IDENTITY

5.1 In compliance with the terms of the legislation in force, which provide for the right to use the social name, the applicant may make his/her request, by request form - attachment III, to be sent together with the enrollment - item 6.1;

5.2 The applicant who chooses to use the social name must be aware that such name will be the only one disclosed in any publication, without any mention of the registration name;

5.3 When enrolling, the student should be aware of the use of the Social Name in academic forms and systems, enrollments, attendance, assessment registration and similar ones, internal identification instruments such as student identification cards and official documents such as school records, declarations, diplomas and certificates, as of said request;

5.4 FGV reserves the right to demand, at any time, other supporting documents regarding the request to include a Social Name.

6. THE ENROLLMENT

6.1 The enrollment will be formalized upon delivery of the following documentation to the SRA - Secretariat of Academic Records:

a. Certified copy of Birth or Marriage Certificate, according to marital status;

b. Certified copy of the Tax ID (CPF);

c. 2 (two) recent 3x4 photos;

d. Certified copy of the temporary student Visa granted by the Brazilian consular authority; (**)

e. Certified copy of RNE (National Registry of Foreign Nationals);

f. Certified copy of the Insurance Policy in the minimum amount of EUR 30,000 (thirty thousand euros) or US$ 42,000 (forty-two thousand US dollars); (**)

g. Declaration of Subsistence (**)

h. Completed and signed enrollment form; (*) i. Statement of Responsibility (*)

j. Request for use of Social Name and other documents - attachment III.

6.2 Due to the deadlines set by the Brazilian Federal Police for the issuance of the RNE - National Registry of Foreign Nationals, the application protocol containing the expiration date of said document will be provisionally accepted for enrollment.

6.3 In case of impossibility of presentation of the Undergraduate Course Diploma, the applicant must present, original or certified copy, the declaration of completion of the course with date of

the degree, issued less than 6 (six) months before, duly signed and stamped by the Educational Institution.

6.4 Under no circumstances will protocols of any documents above be accepted except as described in item 6.3.

6.5 An applicant who fails to submit a certified copy of the Undergraduate Course Diploma prior to the end of the first academic quarter of the course will be unable to renew the enrollment for the subsequent academic term.

6.6 The applicant who does not present the certified copy of the RNE before the end of the first academic quarter of the course will not be able to renew the enrollment for the subsequent academic term.

6.7 In no case, even if approved in the selection process, enrollments of applicants in the final phase of the undergraduate course will be accepted.

6.8 In the event of non-attendance of the candidate, or sending of documents, within the deadline established for enrollment or withdrawal, the applicant immediately next in the classification list will be called.

6.9 Enrollments with incomplete documentation or received after the date established in the Schedule of this Public Notice will not be carried out.

6.10 The above documents must be delivered to FGV/ SRA - Secretariat of Academic Records. In the case of applicants residing in other States, the (certified) documents may be sent via SEDEX, with posting date according to the Schedule - Attachment I.

6.11 FGV will not be responsible for any loss of documents sent through the Post Office, and it is the responsibility of the applicant to keep the documents cited in this Public Notice.

7. THE SCHOLARSHIPS

7.1 The values and rules for obtaining and maintaining scholarships are subject to the rules set forth by public development agencies, namely: CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), CAPES/PROEX (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel / Program of Academic Excellence) and FAPERJ (Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro). Partnerships with some private institutions have also made it possible, over the last few years, to provide some additional scholarships.

8. THE GENERAL CONDITIONS

8.1 The cases not included in this call will be resolved by the Coordination of the Course;

8.2 Unselected applicants may withdraw their documents at the FGV /SRA within 60 (sixty) days after disclosure of the selection result, according to the Schedule - Attachment I. After said date, the documentation will be discarded. In no case will it be returned by the Post Office;

8.3 When registering, the applicant will be accepting in full the rules set forth in this Public Notice and Program Regulations available for consultation on the School’s website (www.fgv.br/epge), without any subsequent complaint or appeal being acceptable;

8.4 The applicant who registers using false documents or false, fraudulent, irregular information or

other illegal means will have his/her registration canceled;

8.5 The dates defined in the schedule may be changed without prior notice, and the new dates will be published on the School’s website (www.fgv.br/epge), by errata;

8.6 It is the duty of the applicant to keep informed of the dates, places and deadlines set in the schedule of this Public Notice, being his/her full responsibility the loss resulting from failure to comply with those data.

* Leveling Module I is an integral part of the FGV/EPGE PHD Program. This is an optional course strongly recommended for new students of Direct Doctor’s Program, aiming to provide knowledge on various topics of Mathematics required for a student entering this Program. All students who participate in the leveling module, in compliance with the norms inherent to it, may begin to receive a scholarship in that period. The usual scholarships of the PHD Program will follow the regular norms of the Program.

** Leveling Module II is an integral part of the FGV/EPGE Academic Master´s and PhD Programs and complements the content offered in Module I. It is an optional course strongly recommended to new students of those Programs.

Thank you for consenting with the issuance of a Letter of Recommendation for the applicant to the Doctor’s Degree in Economics.

The admission panel to the program values a document that evaluates the academic and/or professional evolution of the applicant – his/her main technical and behavioral skills - and that combines the identification of possible deficiencies that can be supplied by the program, indicating the value added by the course, in the applicant’s professional development.

The items and questions below are a suggestion of the main assessment aspects of the referred applicant and that may contribute to the elaboration of the relevant document.

The Letter of Recommendation can be prepared in letterhead stationery of the university or company or the form herein duly completed, appending, as the case may be, supplementary sheet for the dissertation questions.

In both cases, the validation of the Letter of Recommendation is guaranteed exclusively by sending it directly from the email of the recommending person to the email of the Doctor’s Degree in Economics course of EPGE, thus ensuring the confidentiality of the information expressed therein.
