5. Objetivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)
São objetivos o seminário:
1. proporcionar uma aproximação ao conceito de criatividade na prática da tradução, através da análise do espaço concedido à criatividade em manuais, códigos de boas práticas e na proteção legal do tradutor como criador de obra intelectual;
2. problematizar a distinção entre tradução e criatividade, compreendendo-a no contexto do discurso tradicional sobre a tradução assente nos pares “autor e tradutor”, “original e tradução”, tomando, ao mesmo tempo, consciência da centralidade de tais distinções no pacto entre o tradutor e o cliente ou consumidor da tradução;
1. identificar e compreender estratégias “mais criativas” em tradução;
2. debater afirmações e hipóteses descritivas sobre o processo tradutório e a profissão de tradutor;
3. problematizar conceitos e classificações fundamentais em tradução;
4. escrever recensões críticas de trabalhos científicos em Estudos de Tradução; 5. produzir investigação relevante e atual em Estudos de Tradução.
Learning outcomes of the curricular unit
Goals:
1. To approach the concept of creativity in translation practice through the analysis of the space granted to creativity in handbooks, codes of good practice and the legal protection of translators.
2. To discuss the boundaries between translation and creativity bearing in mind (i) that traditional discourse on translation has been grounded on dichotomies such as ‘author’ vs. ‘translator’ and ‘original’ vs. ‘translation’ and (ii) the central role these distinctions play in the maintenance of the tacit pact between the translator and the consumer/client.
3. To acknowledge the existence of multiple translation phenomena (such as selftranslation, pseudotranslation and indirect translation) which seem to deconstruct the dichotomy between translation and creativity; to raise awareness of the relevance of these borderline translation cases to both translation market and cultural history.
This seminar aims at developing the following skills:
1. identifying and justifying more “creative” translation strategies;
2. discussing claims and descriptive hypotheses about the translation process and profession;
3. questioning fundamental concepts and categories in translation; 4. writing critical reviews of scientific articles in Translation Studiesp; 5. conducting relevant and timely research in Translation Studies.
