(conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)
Desenvolver nos alunos o sentido crítico e a capacidade de reflexão sobre a relevância do contexto social e das componentes individuais e sociais do investigador no desenvolvimento de um desenho de pesquisa;
Desenvolver nos alunos as capacidades de raciocínio requeridas na investigação científica e inerentes ao processo de investigação, de molde a incrementar a consistência subjacente ao desenho de uma pesquisa (em Politica Social) e a reforçar a validade e fiabilidade do estudo;
Learning outcomes of the curricular
unit Considering students' motivations and biographical trajectories, we aim to:
Develop students' critical awareness and capacity of (self) reflection on the relevance of both the social context and the individual and social components of the researcher in the development of a research design;
Develop the students' reasoning skills required in scientific research and inherent to the research process, in order to increase the consistency underlying the design of a research (in Social Policy) and to reinforce the validity and reliability of the study;
Develop students' knowledge and skills that enable both the identification and formulation of research problems relevant to Social Policy, using the state of art as a starting point, and the definition of study objectives that contribute to the enrichment of scientific knowledge in this area; Develop students' abilities and skills to conceive a research design in Social Policy, considering the problem and the objectives of the study.

Teaching and Assesment
Methodologies Lectures with frequent illustrations provided by the use of examples, guided discussions on the
components of a research design supported by resources such as scientific papers, thematic presentations followed by debate, supervision of students' assignments and students¿ assignments presentations.
The assessment follows standard criteria established in Knowledge and Skills Assessment Regulations of the ISCSP's III cycle of studies.
Assessment is done through one individual work, that consists in designing a research: written work (60%); oral presentation and discussion (40%).
