Editorial

Dear Reader

We start the new year facing important challenges. Improving the quality of our papers is a constant issue to the authors, Editorial Board and referees. We beg the authors’ attention to the quality indicators in each paper. Manuscripts should be written clearly when submitted. Grammar and syntax must be excellent. The reviewers and casual readers must fully understand the authors’ intended meaning. Conclusions of reports must be definitive, fully supported by: 1) robust, logical experimental design; 2) adequate methods; 3) strong, well documented data. It’s worthwhile to say that all figures on the paper should be carefully selected, clearly displaying the results. To earn readers’ respect, quality papers are always required. In this way, authors should best organize and report their data. Editor and reviewers should chase the outstanding papers. A commitment to quality will help to spread Brazilian Science.

Besides the existence of excellent papers, a proper vehicle for diffusion is required. The Scientific Electronic Library Online, SciELO, has been doing a phenomenal work in this issue. Being part of SciELO represents a passport to any place in the world. Since JAOS joined SciELO, the number of hits increased linearly. Looking at the most accessed papers, we can see that reviews get great attention. Published just a few months ago, a special issue on the Grupo Brasileiro de Materiais Dentários Meeting produced one of the most cited papers in a small period of time (690 hits in 3 months): Water movement across bonded dentin - too much of a good thing. J. Appl. Oral Sci., 2004, vol. 12, spec iss, p.12-25, by Tay et al.. This is a definitive proof that a good and accessible paper will be read.

In this issue, we bring the first part of a wonderful review about ceramics and adhesion. Dr Della Bona discusses the relevance of microstructural parameters on the structure/property of dental ceramics, exploring the state of the art on this issue.

We want your participation to build a strong and consistent vehicle to make our good science known. Join us, move forward to the next page and enjoy the issue.
