17th Volume (2) – Apr/May/June - 2013

Dear Colleagues,

These days, with globalized knowledge and new partnerships being forged between countries with respect to cultural and scientific dissemination, there is a pressing need for countries in accelerated development to provide more exchange program opportunities for their professionals, especially in the field of otorhinolaryngology, aptly named as Otorhinolaryngology Without Borders.

This can surely be achieved with a progressive increase in the exchange of professionals between developed and developing countries and with technology transfer sponsored by bilateral government bodies; above all, however, this can be achieved by the relentless search for treatment and cure of countless diseases afflicting our population.

If we take basic teaching in Otorhinolaryngology in medical schools, up to specialized teaching (medical residency), we will see that this is one of the highest interface areas across medical specialties, being responsible for the treatment of highly prevalent diseases. These patients are shared by specialists in other areas such as clinicians, pediatricians, head and neck physicians, and family doctors, among others.

The International Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2013, is giving awards to the 3 meta-analysis papers published in 2012 in our journal that obtained the highest voting from our editorial board, seeking to emphasize article templates that form the bases and concepts in universal knowledge. The best papers were selected by the journal’s editorial board in the following order:

1st) Prelingual deafness: Benefits from cochlear implants versus conventional hearing aids.

2nd) Bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA): indications, functional results, and comparison with reconstructive surgery of the ear.

3rd) Cough: neurophysiology, methods of research, pharmacological therapy and phonoaudiology.

The International Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2014, will continue to give awards to these study types that are published in one of the 4 volumes of 2013. The prize and instructions rules are detailed in this issue of the journal.

We hope to see your publication soon in future issues of our journal.

Best regards,

Geraldo Pereira Jotz

Editor-in-Chief
