Relatório de Atividades 2011

Introdução
O principal objetivo do experimento CMS é o estudo das leis fundamentais da Natureza em energias muito altas. Além da busca pelo elusivo bóson de Higgs, a última peça que faltava no Modelo Padrão de Física de Partículas, o CMS é capaz de investigar a existência de novas partículas e interações. Durante o ano de 2011 o CMS coletou os dados obtidos da colisão de feixes de prótons à energia de centro de massa de 7 TeV. Os resultados das análises dessas observações foram apresentados em 105 artigos científicos publicados em revistas indexadas. Contando com 48 membros, a participação do grupo brasileiro no experimento resultou, entre outros, na produção de cinco dissertações de mestrado e uma tese de doutorado.
