INTRODUCTION

In this booklet, two sample tasks are provided for each of the skills of: • Listening

• Reading

The two Listening and Reading Portuguese sample tasks in this booklet have been produced to give you a better idea of the style of Asset Languages Preliminary Stage External Assessment. These tasks are based on the sample external assessment materials in English on the website. Asset Languages live tests will contain tasks of the same format as the tasks provided here.

For more information on the content of the Preliminary external assessments, please refer to the Introductory Stage Guide which is available on the Asset Languages website. Language

specifications are also available and these show the language purposes and functions that are in external tests for each language.

Asset Languages regularly receives feedback from centres and candidates as well as statistical information from candidates’ live test responses. We take this information into account and, over time, tests may be adapted and new task types introduced.

A Nossa Primeira Casa

Depois de se casarem, o Paulo e a Cecília foram morar com os pais dele. Sempre

sonharam com um apartamento próprio, mas no início não tinham condições financeiras. Então um dia, a Cecília viu no jornal um apartamento para alugar. Era um apartamento térreo e pequeno, e custava só 60€ por semana. Eles sentiram-se muito sortudos. Porém, o Paulo e a Cecília não eram os únicos interessados no apartamento. A proprietária, D. Maria, podia escolher quem ela quisesse para lá morar. Felizmente escolheu-os a eles. Mais tarde, ela disse-lhes que era porque os dois tinham trabalhos bons.

Os pais da Cecília deram-lhes uma cama, uma mesa e duas cadeiras. Usaram o dinheirinho que tinham para comprar tecido e com ele a Cecília fez umas almofadas. O mais importante era o fogão pequeno que compraram. Era a única coisa

completamente nova que tinham, e veio com um livro de receitas de graça. Todos os dias de manhã, a Cecília procurava a receita do dia e à volta quando vinha do trabalho

comprava a comida que precisava. Descobriu logo que algumas receitas eram melhores do que outras. O Paulo dizia sempre que as comidas eram deliciosas – o que era agradável da parte dele, embora nem sempre fosse verdade.
