Educating is the most dignified of human manifestations towardstheirpeers.Teaching, whichisanintegralpartof edu-cation,is,inourarea,anobleattitudealreadyemphasizedby Hippocratesinouroath.
“IwillhonortheteacherwhoteachesmethisartasIhonor myownparents”.
Wehavealwaysrespectedtheseprinciples,andthisisthe mainactivityoftheBrazilianSocietyofOrthopedicsand Trau-matology(Sbot),ofwhichthe BrazilianJournalofOrthopedics (RBO)isonepart.
Weneedtomakeoureducationsystemsquickerinorder tobemoreresponsivetocurrenttrends;foryoungpeople,our classessometimesseemtobethereadingofnewspapersof thepreviousday.
Forus,teachingandeducatingcolleaguesisavoluntary, unpaidactivity,donetotherespectforourprofession,as Hip-pocrateswrote.
Continuingmedicaleducationhasalsobeenconsidereda goodbusiness.Mostmanufacturersordistributorsof surgi-calmaterialshaveheavilyinvestedinthisareabecausethey foundthatthisisthebestandmostdignifiedwayofgetting relatedtothephysicians.

Ibelievethat,asfar aswe,orthopedists,are concerned, thereisahugeandfruitfuleffortinteachingandeducation.
Regardingourclients,thisdoesnotoccur,andwhatwesee isagreatgapinthisareaofourrelationshipwiththepatients, eitherinthepersonalorinstitutionalplane.
Withaninaccessiblelanguageandarigidposture,weput ourselvesinapositionthatisfarfromourcustomers.
Thisattitudehasgenerated,overtheyears,aclear antipa-thyforthemedicalclass,whoisblamedformostoftheflaws ofasysteminwhichwehavenoparticipation.
Theblamingforthephysicianforsomethingthathas noth-ing todowithhis/herprofessionalperformanceisclearin any newsthat carriessome fact involving health. If there is adelay or lackofassistance equipment, it isnever our fault.
Socially, we are seen as distant, and are generally con-sidered mercenaries, for developing a job that, due to the degreeofresponsibility, ispriceless.Inaddition, weobserved, inouroutpatientclinics, patientswhowerelostorwhotook harmfulactionsforthe evolutionoftheirtreatments. They steppedwithoutbeingabletostep, theydidnotmovewhen theyshouldmove, theymovedwheretheyshouldnot, they didnottakemedicationcorrectly, theydidnotreturnwhen theyshouldreturnandsomanyothererrorsduetolackof education.
This distance greatly favors the emergence of char-latans who, with their kindness, attention and clarity in communication, harm people with their dishonest activity.
Wearegoodateducating,aswehaveseenatthe begin-ningofthistext,butitisnecessarythatwedevelopchannels ofcommunicationwitheverythingarounduswiththesame abilitywithwhichweeducate.
